Owner Not Impressed Over What Dog Is Barking About: 'I Hate Him So Much'

A dog's reaction when he realized his secret food stash was moved without his permission quickly went viral, leaving the internet in stitches.

Erik Hane's garden is a paradise for Nico the beagle mix. One spot, in particular, is the dog's go-to: the tomato plant. At ground level with fresh, ripe tomatoes ready to be picked, Nico constantly went back to gather a tasty treat every time he went outside.

But Hane knew it was time to move the plant so his dog would stop stealing the tomatoes. And while dogs can eat tomatoes, it must be done in moderation, according to the American Kennel Club. They should not, however, eat, the plant itself.

The tomato plant was moved to a raised flower bed and Nico "very obviously objected to that." Nico doesn't bark often, Hane told Newsweek. He will when something is on his mind and in this instance, he very quickly spoke on his opinions about the garden transformation.

Hane shared what he discovered Nico doing in an August 22 tweet posted on X, formerly known as Twitter. The tweet reads: "I hear the dog barking at the top of his lungs and I come out to see what it is. He wants me to put the tomato plant back at a height where he can eat it some more. I hate him so much."

Hane stepped outside when he heard Nico's barking and discovered a disgruntled dog. Nico looked at the newly moved tomato plant with sadness, then he immediately glared at Hane with frustration. He knew exactly who did it and wasn't ready to forgive Hane.

There is no doubt that Nico was mad about the change. However, Nico started to give it up after a few days. He realized it wasn't going back to the way it was.

"He had given up on the dream a little bit," Hane said.

The tweet quickly amassed over 1 million views and 58,000 likes.

Noting the dog's reaction and Hane's use of the word "hate," people have tweeted that the "feeling is mutual." Nico hates the owner for changing the garden layout.

Others demand justice for Nico: "He's never done a thing wrong in his life (I've never met this dog)."

Another added: "Order this very good baby a bushel of the finest sun-ripened tomatoes immediately."
