Couple Fall In Love With Stray Puppy On Vacation, Decide To Fly Her Home
A couple from the U.K. were enjoying their last day of holiday in Cyprus when suddenly a stray pup showed up to their villa and refused to leave them.
In a post shared on TikTok in June, under the username @dudleyandnala, the poster explains that while on the European holiday, a puppy walked into their villa exactly 24 hours before they were due for departure, and they instantly fell in love.
"She spent the whole day around the pool with us. We knew we couldn't leave her on the streets at just 4 months old so we arranged to fly her to the UK. Took her to the vets to start the process of bringing her home the day we were flying back.
"Flew home knowing we wouldn't see her for 4 months whilst she was in quarantine. She was fostered so we had regular updates. After a very long wait she was about to fly home We tracked her flight home the whole way."
After she landed at Heathrow Airport, the couple took Nala home to meet her big brother, Dudley, for the first time, and they instantly became best friends.
"From street dog to her forever home," read a caption shared along with heartwarming post.
Each year 6.3 million pets enter U.S. shelters, an average of 17,260 a day, according to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
The number of dogs and cats taken in by pet shelters hit 46,807 during January 2023, an increase of 1,744 compared with January 2022, the 24Pet Shelter Watch Report found.
Around 920,000 surrendered animals are euthanized every year. Shelters are striving to minimize euthanasia rates by promoting adoption campaigns, spaying and neutering programs, and behavior rehabilitation.
That's why animal shelters are asking people to adopt pets instead of buying them. Adoption is a process that takes patience and dedication, but it's worth it all when your pet recognizes you as the person who gave them a new chance at life.
The RSPCA explains that after choosing your pup online on a shelter's website, and completing the re-homing application, you can then get to know your chosen pup and start home visits with the shelter staff.
Once your pup and home are ready, you can collect your new pup and enjoy life with the new addition to the family.
The video quickly went viral on social media, getting viewers from across TikTok. It has so far received over 1.9 million views and 155,500 likes on the platform.
One user, Gem Davies, commented: "I've never been abroad but really don't think I'd cope seeing stray dogs like this!"
Sue Nott said: "We also rescued a dog from Cyprus, we've had her 2 years now. Well done for helping one of the hundreds of Cyprus street dogs."
Sharon Cambridge added: "Made me cry, wonderful people for rescuing this fur baby."
