Internet Obsessed With How Dog Prepares for Flight—'Vacation Mode Unlocked'

Flying can be a nerve-racking experience for some, but not for one beagle, who has left social-media users in hysterics with his very relaxed approach to traveling.

A video was shared on TikTok by user @apartmentkitchen showing the dog's very thorough preparations before catching a flight from LaGuardia Airport, New York. The hilarious footage shows the beagle sprawled out on his back with his legs up in the air as he waits to board the flight.

While some passengers like to keep themselves occupied with a book or podcast, this dog prefers to have a snooze and unwind beforehand instead. His owner said in the video that this is what he does every time she flies with him, while sharing a montage of clips showing this same routine.

Since the TikTok video was shared on July 9, it has delighted internet users and generated almost 260,000 views and over 23,000 likes at the time of writing.

When it comes to flying with an animal, each airline will have its own policies that passengers must adhere to. The U.S. Department of Transportation (DoT) says that a pet can be transported as baggage if accompanied on the same flight and to the same destination. Many airlines allow passengers to have a cat or dog on board with them, as long as they fit in front or underneath their seat, and there is often an additional pet carry-on fee.

When traveling domestically with a pet, it is vital to check the animal health requirements of the destination state or territory. Requirements can include a health certificate, up-to-date vaccinations, diagnostic testing, or administering treatments.

Indeed, the DoT recommends that owners should always contact their airline for up-to-date policies, as well as a local veterinarian to confirm the dog's eligibility to travel.

While this beagle certainly seems relaxed about flying, not all pets are so at ease. However, there are things that owners can do to help, such as not feeding them solid food for six hours before flying; walking them before and after the flight; scheduling a nonstop flight; and helping them feel accustomed to their kennel before traveling.
