Moment Dog Shows Owner's Boyfriend He Has 'Zero Authority' at Her Home

A video showcasing a dog's playful defiance when her owner's boyfriend attempts to put her to bed has left the Internet in stitches.

The clip, shared by @sillytillythegolden, the TikTok account of a golden retriever named Tilly, has racked up over 435,000 views since it was posted on August 12.

A message overlaid on the video reads, "Last night I asked my boyfriend to put my dog to bed."

The boyfriend is heard instructing, "Tilly, get into bed," while the golden retriever lays down on the floor in front of her crate, seemingly unfazed by the command.

The text then says, "And we learned that she thinks my boyfriend has zero authority in this house," as hysterical laughter erupts in the background.

Tilly's naughty behavior is not entirely surprising because dogs "are not sensitive to watching eyes," according to a January 2020 study published in Scientific Reports.

The study said that while people are less "likely to carry out risky behavior in general" when they feel they're being watched, "dogs, despite being highly sensitive to human eyes, do not show the watching-eye effect."

The study found that dogs understand social rules, such as being slower to steal food when commanded to leave it. However, "this understanding appears to be specific to the person giving the rule and does not generalize to novel observers," it said.

"For example, dogs are more likely to steal forbidden food when a novel observer replaces the person giving the command," the study noted.

'The Audacity'

As the boyfriend taps on the crate in an attempt to coax Tilly inside, she remains on the floor in a curled-up position, showing no signs of moving. The video humorously comments on the situation with a note that reads, "Maybe if I lay here, they'll think I'm in the crate."

Despite his repeated efforts, Tilly refuses to budge. The boyfriend tries again, saying, "Get in," but the dog simply stares back at him, unmoved. A caption across the screen sums up Tilly's attitude: "It's a no from me."

The caption accompanying the post reads, "Well, we know who's the bottom of this pack."

TikTok users were quick to react to the golden retriever's disobedient antics.

One commenter, @dstowell510, noted the dog's clear refusal, writing, "She said 'disrespectfully... no.'" Another user, @silverinthegoldenhour, added to the fun by labeling the boyfriend "the spare human."

A TikToker named Iris commented, "She's like, 'the audacity of this spare.'"

Other users found humor in Tilly's preference for her owner over her boyfriend.

TikToker @miranda___myers quipped, "She's like the real boss is mommy bye," echoing the sentiment that Tilly only recognizes her owner's authority. Another viewer, Kales, summarized the situation perfectly, saying, "She went all in on 'you're not my real dad,' and honestly, respect."
