Moment Labrador Puppy Decides to 'Give Up' Right Before Owners Pick Her

Social media viewers have fallen head over heels in love with a puppy that appeared to "give up," thinking that potential owners would not notice her among her siblings and take her home.

Chocolate Labrador Hanchey is now a much-adored pet and even has a TikTok account, @hancheythechocolatelab, dedicated to her. But before she was chosen to come home with her new owners, she had given up getting noticed among her brothers and sisters.

In a video shared to the account on June 11, six Labrador puppies can be seen jumping up to lick and sniff at a woman's hands as she leans over to choose one of them.

Hanchey is at the back of the litter, doing her best to get to the front and get noticed but being pushed back each time. Finally, she sits down, no longer even trying to get the woman's attention.

The clip was shared with the words: "Our puppy thinking she was never going to be picked, watch her give up at the end."

But after the green-eyed Lab sat down, resigned to her fate, the video changed to a photo montage of Hanchey living a life of luxury with her new owners.

From being taken home in the car to stretching out in a dog bed and receiving pats and cuddles, Hanchey looks as if she's on top of the world. And, judging by other videos on her page, the now fully grown Lab is just as adored as the day she was brought home.

TikTok users were moved by the emotional video, which has been viewed over 17 million times and liked 3.2 million times. Over 12,000 people commented on the clip, including one who said: "I've always picked the runt of the litter or the one who stays back."

Another said: "We picked the sad quiet sweet chocolate lab puppy no one else wanted...and she was the most chaotic angel I've ever met. I miss her so much."

Another wrote: "I picked the runt of the litter almost 8 years ago. Best choice ever."

One user wrote alongside a crying emoji: "The fact her tail stopped wagging too."

And one user shared their own sweet story about their now-senior dog: "Our dog was the runt of the litter. Her brothers were twice her size and bullied her. She chose our daughter and cuddled into her in the car home. Nearly 12 now. Still loves people."

Labrador retrievers are one of the most popular dog breeds in America, second only to the French bulldog, and have held the No. 1 spot for 31 years, according to the American Kennel Club (AKC) website.

Labs first became popular in the 1800s, first as hunting and working dogs, then in modern times as family pets, thanks to their friendly, eager-to-please temperament and how good they are with children, the AKC writes.

A Labrador cross recently went viral on Instagram when he was caught red-handed stealing a bubble bath from his owner, and it wasn't the first time he had done so.

On Instagram, Hollie Wright filmed the dog soaking up the bubbles without a care in the world, telling Newsweek he "started stealing my baths a couple of weeks ago."

But Wright said that her pup is "a very good boy, even if he does steal my baths."
