Driver Finds Three Puppies Running on Freeway—Decides 'I Have To Save Them'

A California woman has been applauded for her reaction to learning that three puppies were running along a stretch of Los Angeles highway.

In a video posted to TikTok under the handle @vivianaaae, a woman known only as Viv shared footage from the day she and her husband came to the rescue of the stricken dogs.

Newsweek has made multiple attempts to contact Viv to no avail. While the details of what happened that fateful August day are clear to see in the 88-second video she uploaded to the social media platform, Newsweek was unbale to verify the details.

Writing in the video posted to TikTok, she explained how her partner, who was on the freeway at the time, messaged her explaining he had seen the helpless dogs and needed to do something.

"I have to save them," he wrote, to which Viv replied: "Save them babe, we'll figure out the rest when you get home."

The video, which can be watched here, then cut to the moment he returned home with the dogs in the front seat of the car. All three of the dogs appear to be distinctly different breeds, though they are most likely mixed.

While one of the pups appears in good enough spirits to stand on the center console and give his rescuer some affection, the two other dogs appear scared, tired and understandably shaken from their experience.

Thankfully, happier times await with the video then cutting to the trio of pups in their new crate and then to footage of them playing in Viv's garden with the Doberman they already have.

Viv then shows the three pups cuddled up next to each other in a sure sign they feel safe and happy in their new surroundings. The video ends with all three dogs, now looking bigger and older, enjoying a cuddle in the garden of the place they now call home.

According to Shelter Animal Counts, which is a national database for animal rescues, shelters, and humane societies, in 2023, 6.5 million dogs and cats entered animal shelters and rescue organizations.

But while the number of animals entering the system was down over the first half of the year, shelters across the country remained full, with America well into their fourth year of having too many animals and not enough adoptions—particularly for dogs.

Some dogs don't even make it to the shelter. Though it's impossible to know the circumstances that led to a litter of puppies ending up on a freeway, Viv and her partner were determined to take action. And found themselves rightly praised in the comments section accompanying the viral clip.

"Thank you for saving them you're their angels," one wrote with another commenting: "You guys have your place in heaven."

A third said: "I love the way they cuddle together when they sleep then yall for helping them" while a fourth added: "they look so heart broken."

Despite coming to the dogs' aid, it's clear Viv was left shocked at what happened though, writing: "I'll never understand how people can just dump these sweet little babies, they're safe now and will forever be taken care of."
