Koi Fish Gets a Little Too Excited When Owner Goes to Feed Him

A koi fish named Snappy has delighted social media with his hilarious reaction every time his owner goes out to the pond to feed him, as seen in a video that has quickly gone viral.

The hilarious video, shared on TikTok in August under the username @snappythekoi, shows the poster approaching the pond with food. Snappy immediately notices the owner and loses his mind. The fish appears so excited that he jumps out of the water and almost out of the pond so he is first in line when the food is dropped.

"My Koi Snappy gets a little excited every time we go to feed him," layover text displayed with the clip reads.

A caption shared with the clip says: "This is snappy our Koi Carp, despite being fed twice / three times daily...you would think he is starving. Will now rename him Kamikaze..."

Fish are much more clever than we give them credit for. The website PetMD says they not only have the ability to sense when something has changed in their environment, as when the tank is rearranged, but can also tell if a fish has been replaced.

In fact, studies have shown that fish can differentiate between other fish, even those of the same species, so they know when their tank buddies have been replaced by new ones.

But that's not all. Some studies show that fish may also have the ability to distinguish between people's faces, even though they don't need to from an ecological standpoint since we do not share the same living space.
