Owners Install Screen to Keep Bugs Out, But Dog Has Different Idea
A dog owner from Philadelphia installed a pet-friendly mosquito net to ensure her dogs had unrestricted access to the outdoors without letting bugs into the house, but her pup didn't really get its purpose.
In a post shared by @jessie_knowsbest on TikTok on Friday, one of the poster's five dogs can be seen lying down in the middle of the door between the living room and the porch. As he chills on the floor, his head is popping out of the net on the other side of the door, leaving parts of it lifted for the bugs to get in.
A caption reads: "We installed this screen so the dogs could in and out without letting bugs in. It's going really well."
There are over 3,700 types of mosquitoes in the world, and while some of them are just a nuisance, others can spread germs to people or animals that make them sick.
Mosquitoes can become infected with germs, such as viruses and parasites when they bite infected people and animals and can pass on diseases through bites. In some parts of the world, mosquitoes are known to spread dengue and malaria. They can live for about 2 to 4 weeks depending on the species, and females often live longer than males, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
"A few infected mosquitoes can start an outbreak in a community and put you and your family at risk of becoming sick," says the CDC website.
The video quickly went viral on TikTok with over 1.6 million views and 166,900 likes on the platform so far.
One user, Courtney, commented: "I watched the whole video and not a single bug came in so it looks like it's working to me."
TikToker lh commented, "Don't worry mom, he's guarding the doorway so the bugs don't come in."

Shawnna Rules commented, "I did the same with an automatic doggie door to keep the cats in... cats just wait for the dogs to open it... $700 WASTED."
