Tears As Dachshund Dad Meets His Newborn Puppy for First Time: 'Smitten'
A dog's first meeting with his newborn puppy has tugged at the heartstrings of viewers online.
The miniature dachshund's introduction to one of his newborn puppies was captured by their owner and shared to Instagram on August 4 under @lulutheween. It has since been liked more than 32,000 times. The footage has also led to an outpouring of emotions in the comments, as viewers voiced how moved they felt by the male dachshund's sweet reaction to his son.
"We wanted to get his reaction and see how he would respond to his newest puppy," the dogs' owner, Bethany, who would prefer to keep her full identity private, told Newsweek. "It was so cute."
Viewers were able to see the brown and tan sausage dog standing up on his hind legs to greet his offspring, with a wide-eyed look on his face. Their owner then held the red-shaded puppy, who had not yet opened his eyes, up to his dad who began sniffing his latest child curiously. Other dachshunds belonging to Bethany were seen jumping up and down excitedly in the background of the emotional introduction.
An overlaid text on the video read: "Introducing the dad to his newborn baby...Smitten...Hmm kinda smells like me...Is this love?...Yep, smells like love."
The short clip ended with the dad licking his newborn son, a common sign of affection and endearment in the animal world.
Dachshunds, originally bred to hunt for badgers and rabbits, are known to be loyal and affectionate pets.
The post was captioned: "Can't believe I got this on camera."
