Dog Reunited With Grandpa After 6 Months Apart Can't Hide His True Feelings
The internet has fallen in love with a video of a dog unable to believe he was being reunited with one of his favorite people.
Cameron Ritchie's grandfather has a close relationship with Ritchie's dog, and for a long time would stop in every single day to take him on a walk.
But his grandpa went away for six months, to relax in his vacation home, leaving the pup to wonder where he had gone.
Their reunion was caught on camera and shared to Ritchie's TikTok account @cameronritchielifts, on September 1, where it has racked up over 7.3 million views and 780,000 likes in a matter of days.
It shows the older man walking in Ritchie's front door and kneeling down, and the dog has an instant reaction.
He first barks wildly, as though protecting his owner from an intruder, but his tail gives him away as it wags furiously and non-stop.
Eventually, the grandfather reaches out his hand, and as soon as the canine catches his scent and realizes it's really him, the dog changes completely.
He rushes towards the man and begins cuddling and licking him, as the man scoops him into his arms and gives him the long-awaited pats.
And just as it seems things couldn't get any more exciting, the grandfather says the magic words: "Want to go for a walk?"
According to Rover, dogs can remember and recognize people even after years of not seeing them. They associate positive feelings and experiences with that person, and their strongest memory trigger is their sense of smell.
Captioning the video, Ritchie wrote: "The switch up was crazy," and explained in a comment: "My grandfather usually stops in once a day to walk him and it's my dogs favorite part of his day [sic]."
And responding to a question as to why he had been away for so long, he assured commenters: "Vacation home. Goes there each summer and more to check up on his house and garden."
TikTok users adored the clip, with one commenter saying the dog "had to act like he was mad cause he was gone for so long! Unfortunately his tail betrayed his true feelings."
"The way he wanted love but had to make sure first," another said with a crying emoji, as another pointed out: "The anger stance but wagging his tail like mad at the same time."
