Dog's Way of Telling Owner There's a Spider Near Her Bed Delights Internet
Humans are not the only species afraid of spiders. A toy poodle has left the internet in hysterics after trying her best to tell her owner there was a spider near her bed, in a clip that immediately went viral on social media.
The video, shared on TikTok on Monday, by @margiemack5001, shows the teacup poodle, named Pocky, short for Apocalypse, running back and forth across the room, from her doggy bed to her mom, barking on the way.
"She trying to tell me there's a spider near her bed!" says a caption shared along with the viral clip.
Intense fear of spiders is known as arachnophobia, and people affected can feel incredibly anxious about seeing or thinking about spiders or even webs. They can be so consumed by thoughts of spiders that they will remain awake at night.
The Cleveland Clinic explains that only about 3 to 15 percent of the population has arachnophobia, which is more common in women, though anyone regardless of age and gender can develop this phobia.
Scientist haven't still fully understood what causes this phobia, though research has suggested that it could be caused by a traumatic past experience with a spider, childhood exposure to a parent's arachnophobia or a family history of anxiety disorders.
While some spiders are innocuous, others are venomous, and their bites can be very dangerous. Venomous spiders found in the United States include black widows and brown recluse spiders, which can be dangerous. However, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) explains that spiders are usually not aggressive and most bites occur because a spider is trapped or unintentionally contacted.
The video quickly went viral on social media, getting viewers from across TikTok. It has so far garnered over 3 million views and 374,100 likes on the platform.
One user, Squidney.ww, commented: "I called for help TWICE! and not a fk you, waddaya need, or NOTHIN."
Another said: "When a dog or cat does this—I have learned to pay attention, there's something over there lol."
Dani added: "How does one obtain a spider alert dog...asking for my arachnophobia."
