Dog Devastated As No One Wants To Play With Him at the Beach

A video of a large dog dejected at a beach because others are too afraid to play with him is breaking hearts on TikTok, and his owner told Newsweek it's hard seeing her gentle giant so badly misunderstood.

Jess Dawson, who lives in London, recently shared footage of her four-year-old Irish wolfhound lurcher as he watched other dogs running around and playing while he sat alone at Weymouth beach, on the south coast of the U.K.

"There were LOTS of dogs playing at the beach, but sadly all of them were smaller, and Frank, at 45 kg (99 pounds), scared them all," Dawson said, adding that many owners seemed wary of her adorable boy. "It was tough watching him be left out, but it's something we've gotten used to."

She shared the footage on TikTok with the caption: "It's a hard life being the biggest dog on the beach," and it has been tugging at heartstrings.

Frank stands out wherever he goes—not just because of his size but also, when anyone gets to know him, his gentle demeanor. Sadly his imposing stature so often unintentionally scares off the smaller dogs, leaving him alone.

Despite his large size, Frank is nothing but friendly, and recently made a miraculous recovery after a serious accident. "Frank almost died a few months ago after impaling himself on a spiky pole at the park," Dawson said. "A video of him eating for the first time in four days after surgery went viral. It's amazing to see him back out on walks again."

Dawson said that despite some people keeping their distance on walks, the outpouring of love online is heartwarming. "People on TikTok love him and want their dogs to play with him. It really helps knowing that even though some owners are hesitant, Frank has plenty of fans," she said.

In the comments on the video of Frank alone at the beach, people shared their reactions. "Tell Frank I'd play with him!" said Natasha.

While viewer Andrea said: "Aww poor Frank."

As well as online friends, Frank is also a well-known figure back home in London. "He's got lots of friends, especially his girlfriend Jet, a rescue greyhound, and CiCi, a rescue Turkish street dog," Dawson said.

As Frank continues to heal and gain confidence, Dawson hopes more dog owners will see past his size and let their pups get to know the gentle giant. After all, underneath his towering frame, Frank is just "a big baby" looking for a playmate.
