Dog Can't Believe His Eyes as Hurricane Sweeps Special Treat Into His Yard

A Texas pup has melted hearts on TikTok as he found a silver lining in the aftermath of a hurricane—an unexpected bounty of what he believed were tennis balls.

The Doberman-Weimaraner mix was overjoyed after discovering more than 30 underripe green lemons scattered throughout his backyard all thanks to Hurricane Beryl which tore through the state in July.

The underripe fruit bore an uncanny resemblance to his favorite playthings, tennis balls. Much to his owner's amusement, the dog eagerly gathered the fruit, convinced they were tennis balls delivered straight to him by the storm.

Hanna Siegel, known as @hannaasiegel on TikTok, shared the heartwarming moment in a now-viral video in July that has amassed over 1.2 million views. In the video, the happy dog can be seen running through the yard, collecting the lemons with boundless excitement.

"I keep finding green lemons across the yard because he takes them," Siegel wrote in the caption.

Hurricane Beryl made landfall near Matagorda, Texas, on July 8, bringing sustained winds of 80 miles per hour and gusts up to 100 mph. As a Category 1 storm, it caused widespread damage across the state, leaving 2.7 million homes and businesses without power and costing at least $3.3 billion in damages. With up to 15 inches of rain recorded in some areas, Texas residents were left to deal with flooded streets, damaged infrastructure, and forced closures of oil ports.

TikTok Users React

While Beryl left significant destruction in its wake, the Doberman-Weimaraner found joy amidst the chaos. The video gained plenty of comments from TikTok users, many of whom were charmed by the dog's reaction.

TikToker @sqawberry, commented: "Awww, that's so cute," while another, @AmberBoyd, posted: "If you don't buy that good boy 30 balls..."

The video also prompted some practical advice from concerned pet owners. TikTok user Danielle cautioned, "How cute! Just make sure he doesn't chew on them too much—if they're lemons, they can be toxic to dogs."

In response, Siegel reassured her followers, noting that her dog already had "plenty" of real toys to play with and wasn't eating the citrus fruit.

Despite the devastation of Hurricane Beryl, the playful pup's delight has brought joy online. As one commenter, @Seagull629, fittingly put it: "When life brings you lemons..."
