Owners Buy Their Cats a Window Bird Feeder and They Can't Get Enough Of It
A cat owner bought their four cats a window-installed bird feeder to give them something to look at and it's certainly caught their attention as they watch the comings and goings of the feathered foes..
In a video shared on TikTok in August, under the username @kaymur, the cats are filmed standing by the window, staring at the feeder outside their living room window as they watch the birds' every move, wagging their tails in excitement.
"My parents got a window bird feeder for their cats... these are the videos I've received so far," a caption says.
All cat owners' know that no matter what you offer your cat, nothing in their eyes will ever match the feeling of hunting and catching prey, not even those expensive enriching toys, or the most sophisticated of meat pates and kibble.
Cat wellness website Catster explains that cats hunt because it's an instinctive behavior for them.
"While you might want to ensure that your cat can't catch real prey, as owners of tiny tigers, we need to be realistic about the fact that hunting-type behavior is an instinctive behavior for cats," the website says.
"It's something that keeps them feeling content and satisfied, so we shouldn't expect them to not chase and hunt. However, we can ensure that they do not harm local fauna while they do so."
If you want to prevent your cat from hunting, the best way is to keep them inside, and if you still want them to spend time outside, you can offer them a catio, which is a safe, enclosed area where they can spend time outside without hurting the fauna.
The video quickly went viral on social media, getting viewers from across TikTok. It has so far received over 1 million views and 185,400 likes on the platform.
One user, Advenablack, commented: "I love how they arranged themselves from most to least orange."
HoneyJaim said: "Wish me luck convincing my husband that I now need four cats and a window bird feeder."
Tx_Grl wrote: "I totally had one of those and my cats loved it...HOWEVER, one of my cats woke me up several nights and it was a RAT at midnight in the feeder. I took it down the next say...no thank you."
Zw630 added: "If synchronized bird hunting was a sport—give them the gold."
