Laughter As Dog Begs Owner To Put Him to Bed, Then 'Turns Into a Gremlin'
A dog that turns "into a gremlin" at bedtime has sparked laughter online after gaining viral attention. In a clip with more than 7.2 million views, user @ledariustremaynesmith captured the hilarious nighttime antics of his mixed-breed dog, Pistachio.
The video starts innocently, with Pistachio begging his owner to be put to bed in his crate. But when his owner obliges and takes him to his crate, the pup undergoes a hilarious transformation—flipping from sleepy to wild in seconds.
In the text overlay, the owner wrote: "He kept begging me to put him to bed and then he turns into a gremlin."
As Pistachio barks, he shows off wide "crazy eyes" and dramatically reopens his crate door with his paw.
The ordeal left viewers in stitches, and in the comments, they shared their reactions—and a lot of love for Pistachio.
"I watched this several times because the switch up was fast and crazy lol [laugh out loud]," posted viewer @tareshiacook. Another commenter, @Amanda Robinson, commented: "Pistachio knocking his door back open... it's like he is saying, 'Did I ask you to close my door?'"
Other dog owners even shared their own experiences. User @T Weezy wrote: "Do we have the same dog? I swear my dog asks to go in, and then when I close the cage, he growls at me."
Some viewers wrote that Pistacho's behavior might stem from something else, with @User69 posting: "He's resource guarding his bed."
Resource guarding, according to a 2018 study published in Veterinary Medicine, is a behavior seen in dogs to control access to items they deem valuable, which can sometimes manifest as aggression.
The study, authored by Jacquelyn A. Jacobs and others, examined when and why dogs take part in resource-guarding behaviors.
Interestingly, the study found that mixed-breed dogs, like Pistachio, are more likely to exhibit resource-guarding behaviors than purebred dogs.
Despite the reasoning for Pistachio's hilarious antics, he has melted hearts online.
In a follow-up video, his owner shared a sweet video of himself and Pistachio, and said: "He is very sweet when he wants to be. When he wants to be. Other than that, he's a terror."
