Labrador Gets His Own Puppy, Things Quickly Take an Unexpected Turn

A couple of dog owners got their adult Labrador his very own little puppy, but things didn't exactly go as they had imagined.

In a video shared on TikTok in August, under the username @oakley.and.chipper, the poster can be seen walking through the door holding the new puppy in his arms, while their black Labrador, Oakley sniffs the new arrival and immediately gets agitated.

Oakley kept circling around his owner, trying to grab the puppy with his paws, and even growling for a bit as his owner tried to calm him down. "POV: getting your lad his own puppy, gone wrong," reads layover text on the clip.

While accepting his new little brother wasn't easy for Oakley, this phase didn't last long, and soon they became the best of friends. A caption shared along with the clip says: "They're inseparable now! Took a few days to get used to not being the only child."

As users questioned the puppy's introduction method, the posters clarified in the comments section: "They met briefly outside. That is why Oakley is partially excited and cautious, first time inside.

"Oakley is the nicest/biggest baby ever and they're besties now, they really love each other."

A good introduction is what will set the basis for a peaceful cohabitation between two dogs. That's why owners should take their time with it and ensure it is fully completed before letting the two pups interact unsupervised.

Newsweek previously reported on the best way to introduce a puppy to your already established dog, explaining that it's best to keep them separated at first and then do things gradually.

You can then take some short walks with both dogs on a leash held by two different people, only letting them off leash together in a fenced area, and if they both look ready to do so. It is also important to give your older dog a place to be alone, and treats for every positive interaction with the puppy to reinforce good behavior.

The video quickly went viral on social media, getting viewers from across TikTok. It has so far received over 10.9 million views and 829,100 likes on the platform.

One user, Melody Sanders, commented: "That baby side eyed you when you said, 'Maybe put him on the couch for a sec.'"

Raccoon Daddy added: "Well done, giving them both some love when introducing is huge! The older dog can feel jealous quickly when [you're] holding the puppy!"
