Listen to the Sound Deaf Cat Makes Every Time He Wakes Up: 'Cutest Noises'

A deaf cat's precious way of waking up from his slumber instantly melted hearts online, as people couldn't get over his adorableness.

The owners recently welcomed home their rescue black cat, Otter, and quickly learned this deaf kitty was a chatterbox. Some deaf cats can be "overly noisy," while others are completely quiet, according to Cats Protection, a U.K. charity. Either way is normal. But like Otter, loud deaf cats like to use their yowling to detect what is happening around them. Their sound waves travel, get reflected back and are picked up through their whiskers.

Otter started in foster care as a kitten and had to be bottle fed. The foster mom at the time believed he may have been deaf, and the vet team agreed.

"He is definitely completely deaf," one of the owners told Newsweek via TikTok. "Not sure, though, if he was born deaf or if something happened when he was a baby that caused him to become deaf."

The owners couldn't love him any more and said he doesn't know any different. He's still their happy-as-can-be cat. They especially love the "cutest noises" he makes when he wakes up. He'll stretch his entire body, letting out a grumbling yell or sometimes a high-pitched chirp. Each time is slightly different, with the owners never knowing which one they'll get, but each one is just as precious as the one before.

This vocal cat doesn't make these noises only when he wakes up. The owner said it happens all the time, although it's easier to capture the sounds when he's waking up.

"It's really whenever he's happy or excited," the owner said. "He'll be laying there and will notice me, my husband or his cat/dog friends and will make his noises."

When he sees his owners, he'll start chattering away. He'll sprint around the house playing, and the noises flow right out of him. With a work-from-home owner, he'll snuggle on her lap and make those same noises while relaxing.

"He's a really animated little guy," the owner said.

The original video showing off Otter's noises was shared on September 21 to the account @iamgooseontheloose, and it has over 22 million views and 6 million likes on TikTok. Since viewers couldn't get enough, the owner posted more examples of Otter's vocals while waking up. But people needed to hear it only once to fall in love.

"What an honor it must be to live with this little guy," said one viewer.

Another added: "Love all his squeaky, chirpy vocalisations. My cat finds them all fascinating, too."

Others kept comparing the cat's sounds to an actual otter, with some even suggesting he should "be the new Pokémon."
