Viral Moment Labrador Delivers Popcorn Packet to Owner, but It's a 'Scam'

One dog owner has nailed a clever trick, though there may be room for a bit of improvement.

Lucy Ganney recently shared a video of her well-trained dog, Ozzie, a chocolate brown Labrador, delivering snacks to her bedroom. However, Ozzie had a change of heart and decided to take a packet of popcorn back.

In the September 30 clip shared to @lucyganney, Ozzie is seen entering the room with the snack packet in his mouth, exchanging it for a biscuit. But soon after, he realizes he has room for more, so he cheekily swipes the treat back from his owner's hand.

The video, captioned "I want a refund," has left the internet in stitches and has racked up over 2 million views since it was shared on September 30.

One user commented, "The value of the popcorn far outweighed the digestive biscuit—he had to take it back, sorry." Ganney humorously replied, "You're right, [I] need to level up for the next trade."

Can Dogs Eat Popcorn?

Owners may find it hard to resist those puppy dog eyes, but in some cases it is necessary to be firm. Newsweek previously shared an article highlighting human foods that a dog should never eat, Popcorn was not on the list, however salty foods should be ruled out as excessive consumption could lead to severe side effects like vomiting, seizures and even death.

The American Kennel Club has explained that plain, air-popped popcorn is safe for dogs to eat in small quantities and can serve as an occasional treat. However, buttered or flavored popcorn isn't recommended for regular consumption as it can lead to digestive issues and obesity.

Additionally, popcorn kernels can be a choking hazard or get stuck in dogs' teeth, so it's best to keep whole or partially popped kernels away from them. Treats, including popcorn, should only make up about 10 percent or less of a dog's daily calorie intake.

TikTok Reacts

So far, the popular video has 234,000 likes and hundreds of comments from users who are demanding Ozzie's "wages" are increased.

"Unbelievable payment, minimum wage is at least two biscuits," said one user and another wrote: "He took it back because there was no tip."

While many users have suggested giving Ozzie an extra treat, experts warn against it. Newsweek previously spoke to Dr. Lauren Witter from Small Door Veterinary about overfeeding canines.

She said: "Extra calories can lead to weight gain, which can cause diseases like arthritis and pancreatitis. Instead of higher-calorie dog treats, try switching to some very low-calorie, healthy options such as blueberries, raspberries, or cucumber so you can maintain that bond, without the extra pounds."

Newsweek has reached out to @lucyganney for comment. We could not verify the details of the video.
