Cat Devastated After His Favorite Plant Gets Stolen

Hearts are breaking for a plant-obsessed cat who learned the hard way that there are thieves unafraid of taking beloved items from others.

TikTok user @audreypizza explained in a recent video that the cat Marbles "saved his money" to purchase a pitcher plant. Marbles was able to watch the carnivorous plant, which adorned the front yard. Pitcher plants use their fleshy funnels to trap insects and small animals, a characteristic that fascinates Marbles.

"He especially loves carnivorous plants as he is scared of bugs and admires them for their bravery of eating bugs with no fear," the owner told Newsweek via TikTok.

But one morning, his world was turned upside down when the entire plant was stolen right out of the garden. Devastated, the owner and Marbles created a sign with a message to the thief.

The sign reads: "To the person who stole our cat's pitcher plant ... thanks a lot—he saved up his cat money to buy it ... we were going to teach him about growing plants. Now we have to teach him about [thieves]. Hope you are happy knowing you BROKE our cat's heart."

But that still didn't make Marbles feel any better. In the clip, he's seen looking from the window. He held his face down, with a sadness that would make anyone's heart shatter.

But California's UC Botanical Garden at Berkeley came to the rescue. The owner said the garden was holding a carnivorous plant sale, calling the family's loss "good timing." The business helped pick out a new plant for Marbles.

Now all the family's plants are in the backyard, hopefully safe from thieves. While there is less sun in the backyard, Marbles can still look out into his garden and see all the plants.

The TikTok video amassed over 4.1 million views and nearly 750,000 likes within two days of posting. Like the owner, viewers were up in arms over someone stealing a plant from the yard.

"He probably saw who did it and can't even tell," said one user.

A second person commented: "Another sad thing is that the person who stole it probably can't comprehend how to keep the plant alive—and who tf steals a pitcher plant in the first place I wish Mr. Kitty luck on getting it back."

Another added: "I just fell to my knees screaming and crying."
