Hysterics Over The Difference Between Sphynx Cat And Maine Coon In The Cold
A sphynx cat and his Maine Coon brother have gone viral on social media after their owner shared a clip of them reacting to the same cold temperature in a totally different way.
In the viral video shared on TikTok in May, under the username hdorathy, Irwin the sphynx cat is sitting by the window looking cold, while his brother Keith sits purring behind him looking warm in his fur.
A caption shared along with the post reads: "It's okay Keith I will knit you a cardigan."
Pet MD explains that while it's easy to think that because they're hairless, sphynx cats don't need much grooming, that is not true at all. In fact, these felines need constant care and it starts with their diet.
Because their skin produces lots of grease, they need to have access to the best quality of food to limit any infections and skin issues that these oils could lead to. They will also sometimes need a bath to remove any dirt and grime accumulated.
Being hairless, sphynx cats are also more exposed to cold than any other breed, so if you live in a cold area your cat may need an extra layer of protection. This can be cat apparel, or even heated beds and blankets. Sphynx cats should also not be let outside during cold weather.
The video quickly went viral on social media, getting viewers from across TikTok. It has so far received over 2.3 million views and 383,000 likes on the platform.
One user, Moonlight, commented: "I honestly love those cats, honestly they're so cute I can't handle that other people dislike them. They're amazing."
Muthoni said: "Can't stop hearing the conversation from 'Friends' 'That is not a cat."
Stella wrote: "Don't worry little bald chicken! You are worth more than me! (Why are bald cats to expensive)."
Another user, itsAisha said: "Me to my pe teachers when they have our coats on and make us run the mile."
Martyna Mirga added: "Tbh at least he's a clean van that doesn't leave fur and fleas behind."
Newsweek reached out to hdorathy for comment via TikTok comments. We could not verify the details of the case.
