Dachshund Insisting Human Must Not Stop Petting Has Internet in Stitches
A dog's plea for attention has left viewers on social media in stitches.
The dachshund made their demand for belly rubs clear when the video's creator stopped stroking them in a clip from June 11. The black-and-tan sausage dog was captured grunting and growling in discontent, keen to voice a complaint about their carer's sudden withdrawal of attention.
To keep their upset at bay, the creator began stroking the dog again. The footage had been taken at a dachshund-friendly hotel named Paco's Place in Staffordshire, England, and posted to TikTok under @pacos_place. An overlaid text on the video read: "If you dare stop stroking a dachshund."
Dachshunds, often affectionately called wiener dogs, are renowned for their clingy, needy, and attention-seeking nature. These small hounds thrive on human interaction and tend to form intense bonds with their owners or the other humans they spend time with, frequently following them around the house and craving constant companionship.
Dachshunds are known to become anxious if left alone for extended periods, often displaying signs of separation anxiety. Their desire for attention and affection can lead them to exhibit behaviors such as incessant barking or even destructive actions when they feel neglected. Still, as loyal and affectionate pets, dachshunds make wonderful companions for those who can devote time and attention to them.
The short clip shows the dachshund, a guest at Paco's Place, lying down on his back while two other sausage dogs slept nearby in a huddle together. The dog was filmed eagerly awaiting belly rubs and enjoying them as they were given, before whining in upset when the video's creator temporarily pulled away.
"The side eye," the video's creator said, pointing out the dog's unamused expression.
The day care and boarding center takes in a variety of sausage dogs, caring for them and treating them to activities, while their owners are away. Guests of the hotel are often filmed doing anything from agility games to swimming, with the clips being shared to the hotel's TikTok account that now has 39,000-plus followers. The mother and daughter who run Paco's Place have two dachshunds of their own, 10-year-old Paco and 7-year-old Ramon.
Of the 1.8 million-plus TikTok users that have viewed the video, more than 800 have shared amused comments on the dachshund's need for attention.
"Dachshunds are so needy and spoiled," one user, @weeniedads, wrote.
Another, @popsy87, added: "I am also owned by my dachshund."
A third user, @dachsbuns, shared: "They love scratches because they can't scratch themselves."
