Laughter at Dog's Reaction to Earbud: 'When the Itch Hits the Spot!'

A longhair dachshund named Leo got his ears cleaned with a cotton bud in a viral TikTok video, and viewers still can't stop laughing at his hilarious reaction to it.

The clip, shared in August by his owner, 30-year-old Faith, from London, under the username @faithadamsu, shows the pup relaxing while his owner cleans his ears with a cotton bud. He can be seen squinting and rolling his eyes as he enjoys every single minute of it.

"Leo loves an ear itch from anyone and everyone," Faith told Newsweek. "I was cleaning the outside of his ears very gently, never the inside, and he started to make the funniest facial expressions, which showed pure enjoyment, almost like getting the best massage ever."

"When the itch hits the spot!" reads a caption shared with the hilarious video, perfectly describing how the dog feels about this unusual type of grooming session.

Most dogs have naturally clean and healthy ears, but some, especially those with longer ears, such as basset hounds for example, may need to get their ears washed every now and again. Dirt buildup can lead to infection; that is why it's good practice to check your pup's ears during grooming, and make sure they are always clean.

However, the American Kennel Club (AKC) says that overcleaning their ears can also cause irritation, and cleansing infected ears can make the situation much worse. So how do you know when your dog's ears are infected and when they are fine to clean?

If you noticed that your pup's ears look red and inflamed, or smell yeasty, then it is time to call your veterinarian and have them checked up. Healthy dog ears are usually pink and odorless.

Getting his ears cleaned had more of a relaxing effect on Leo than anything else. The U.K. charity Guide Dogs says that, when a pup is relaxed, their eyes will look soft and droopy, and both their face and body will show no signs of tension. Sometimes, their tongue may also be hanging on the side of their mouth without them even noticing.

The poster added that the 1-year-old pup is the most "lovable gentle boy," with the biggest sausage-dog character. "He's the funniest little character and I hope he brings a little joy and laughter to people's lives through his videos," Faith said.

The video quickly went viral on social media, getting viewers from across TikTok. It has so far received over 868,000 views and more than 110,000 likes on the platform.

One user, Alliekathleens, commented: "I feel the same way when I clean out my ears."

Ivca posted: "He needs to smell it too just to make sure it was a good scratch."

Kaeleerosales added: "Haha my dachshund always loves when I would gently pull on the hair in and around her ears or give her ear scratches."
