Dachshund's Reaction When He Sees Someone He 'Loves' on Walk Melts Hearts
The internet has fallen head-over-heels for a dog who couldn't contain himself when he recognized a human he loves while out on a walk.
Aptly named Romeo, the pup showed his love for a woman by barreling full-speed ahead towards her, in an adorable clip which has gone viral on TikTok with over 151,000 likes.
Shared to his dedicated account @romeo_sausage on September 29, it shows the fluffy dog running full pelt on a leash toward the camera, while a woman is dragged behind him, trying to keep up.
Behind the camera, another woman can be heard laughing and welcoming him: "Hello! Romeo!"
She can't even finish her sentence before she's in fits of giggles, with Romeo disappearing from sight as he rushes into her arms.
In a caption, his owner wrote: "When Romeo sees someone he knows and loves, you gotta pick up speed."
And TikTok users loved it, with one commenter writing: "Ma'am, that rug is moving really fast towards you," picking up close to 10,000 likes for their words.
"Cutest pavement sweeper ever," another said, while one wrote: "His little legs are so happy to see you."
One joked: "I genuinely thought that was a bath sponge," with Romeo's owner replying: "Scrub a dub dub."
Plenty asked what breed Romeo is, thanks to his unusual looks. In his TikTok bio, his owner describes him as a long-haired and wired Dachshund cross, in other words, a "silky sausage."
When not rushing towards his beloved humans in viral videos, Romeo's account shows him being pampered and spoiled, getting cuddles at home, out at the park, practicing recall, playing with toys, and even visiting his mom and dad, with his owner explaining in a comment they got Romeo from family, not from a breeder.
While it's very clear that Romeo has huge love for the person he was running to in the video, there are multiple ways a pet owner can tell whether they're bonded to their dog.
Newsweek previously spoke to two veterinarians, Jess Hockaday and Nick Horniman, who gave insight into the ways you can tell whether your dog loves you.
Unsurprisingly, a happy, wagging tail was top of the list, while a dog following you from room to room just to be close to you is another positive sign. Both veterinarians also pointed to the sharing of toys as an indication your dog loves and trusts you.
"It can be a sign they consider you part of their pack. Sharing toys with you can indicate they value your approval and enjoy engaging in playtime together," Horniman said.
