How Former Shelter Dog Responds to Being Loved Leaves Internet in Tears
A video showcasing the transformative journey of a former shelter dog has touched the hearts of many viewers online.
The clip, posted by user @jennat0b on October 3, has garnered over 131,000 views and beautifully captures the joy and change that love can bring to a rescued pet.
The video begins with a note across the screen that reads, "To be loved …" as it shows a subdued Dalmatian mixed-breed pup named Cash, sitting alone on a raised bed in a corner of a room. The poignant image reflects Cash's initial state at the shelter, looking forlorn and uncertain about his future.
As the video progresses, the note continues with, " … is to be changed," transitioning to scenes of Cash running joyfully around his new home, playing with toys and another dog. This stark contrast highlights the profound impact that adoption and a loving environment can have on a rescue animal.
Social isolation is among the greatest stressors for dogs in animal shelters, found a March 2019 study in PeerJ.
Research has shown that "human interaction reduces cortisol [a hormone regulating stress] in shelter dogs, with the possibility that longer periods of interaction may yield greater effects," the study added.
It said that "dogs' cortisol: creatinine [waste product ratios dropped significantly during their fostering stay, but returned to baseline levels after return to the shelter."
'He's So Grateful You Saved Him'
A caption shared with the viral TikTok post expresses the poster's gratitude and emotional connection to Cash: "There was no way I could leave this little peanut at the shelter. To be loved is to be changed, truly. Thank you to @Operation Kindness for giving me my babies." Operation Kindness is an animal-welfare group in Texas.
The video has evoked an outpouring of emotions and support from TikTok users.
One commenter, Pax, posted, "he's so grateful you saved him," while user1411551387883 wrote: "Omg [oh my God] he's so beautiful and you're beautiful for saving him!"
