A woman rescuing the kill shelter's oldest resident, who was just hours away from being put down, has left internet viewers in tears.

The senior dog, named Henny, had been at DeKalb County Animal Services in Chamblee, Georgia, since March and still hadn't found his forever home. Sadly, as no one had come forward to rescue him, the 8-year-old mixed breed was going to be euthanized on October 8—until Lacy Moore stepped in.

A senior at Kennesaw State University, Georgia, she couldn't bear the thought of Henny being put down through no fault of his own. She told Newsweek that the thought of it brought her to tears. So, with mere hours to go before he was due to be euthanized, she took him home with her.

"I was a little nervous about bringing him back because I didn't know how he would act being out of the shelter," Moore said. "But, in the end, he settled into my home immediately. It was like he had always been there."

Moore has renamed the senior dog Hendrix rather than Henny, and he is already loving his new home. While he might be in his more advanced years, Hendrix is still very playful, and Moore said that he thinks he is a puppy still.

At first, Moore intended only to foster Hendrix to save him from the euthanasia list. She planned on finding him a permanent home afterward, but she said she has already decided that isn't going to happen anymore. After just a week together, she can't bear the thought of him going to another home, and she's decided to permanently adopt Hendrix.

Moore continued: "This wasn't the plan originally, but I have decided that he doesn't belong anywhere else but with me. He is the sweetest, goodest boy, and I have told the shelter I will be adopting him.

"He is very friendly and outgoing, and he loves everyone. He just loves to play and sleep, so he's the perfect balance."

Moore posted about her decision to rescue Hendrix on TikTok (@lacyrmoore), sharing a video of the moment she got him home and gave him a warm bath. The clip melted plenty of hearts online, generating more than 1 million views and over 204,700 views in just a matter of days.

Alongside the clip, Moore wrote in the caption: "The fact that he would have been put to sleep this morning if I didn't grab him is so crazy. He is definitely about to be a foster fail."

There is no doubt that Hendrix is thriving in his forever home now, and Moore said she hopes his story will encourage others to consider rescuing their next pet. Just because they are a bit older doesn't mean they won't make a wonderful companion, as she added that "senior dogs deserve every bit of love, too."

Hendrix may have only been in his life for a number of days, but he has made such a lasting impression already.

Moore told Newsweek: "Please go in and foster or adopt if you can we need to save these babies. If you foster, it's free, and they will provide you with everything you need. Adopt; don't shop."

Since the video of Hendrix's bath went viral, it has amassed over 4,500 comments on TikTok so far. Many people praised Moore for giving the senior dog a second chance at life.

A third person responded: "Thank you for saving this guy! They deserve a chance too."
