Camera Captures Dog's Tantrum After Being Sent Downstairs for Being Naughty
We are all used to children, and sometimes adults, throwing temper tantrums when things don't go their way, but did you know that dogs can have them, too?
A viral TikTok video shows a golden retriever from the United Kingdom acting out after being called naughty, and the internet users cannot cope with it.
The hilarious clip shared on Sunday by the pup's owner, under the username @goldenrocketpup, shows the 1-year-old golden retriever, Rocket, racing downstairs to the living room. He is furious after being called out for his behavior, slamming the door a couple of times, as if trying to release his rage.
As some viewers noticed, Rocket even looked around himself to check if anyone was taking notice of him, after slamming the door just loud enough for his owners upstairs to hear it.
"When I get sent downstairs for being naughty," reads layover text in the clip, and a caption says: "Dogs have tantrums too!"
Pups can indeed throw temper tantrums, which can have multiple reasons.
An article written by a veterinarian, Dr. Austin Stephens, published by PetShun, says these stubborn and destructive behaviors may be a sign that your pup is frustrated, especially if they are young and still haven't learned how to do certain things they may need, like retrieving a toy from a shelf.
Your dog may also be bored, perhaps because they are not getting enough exercise, playtime, or social interaction. Signs that are usually associated with dog tantrums include whining, howling, growling, barking, destructive behaviors, and refusing to follow commands.
These behaviors can be prevented by making sure that all their needs are met, that they are socialized properly, and that you are consistent with their positive reinforcement training.
When your dog is throwing a tantrum, you should not give them what they want. Pet wellness website Wag Walking says that, if your dog is having a tantrum while putting on a leash, for example, your immediate response shouldn't be letting go of it, because that would teach your pup that a tantrum gets them what they want.
Instead, you should be calm, ask them to sit, and then put the leash on them while giving them a treat, to create a positive association. Do this a few times, and they will be more open to wearing the leash.
The video quickly went viral on social media and it has so far received over 240,000 views and more than 20,000 likes on the platform.
One user, Jancojgxxwi, commented: "I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't seen it!!"
Patp1954 posted: "The way he looks after to see if anyone is taking any notice of him."
Woodyswonder added: "Mine like to stomp her feet and huff and puff, she's definitely been taking lessons from the kids."
