Cat Who Sleeps Like a Vampire Goes Viral: 'Count Catula'

A cat's unusual way of sleeping has left viewers online in hysterics.

The black and white cat, named Peppercorn, has gone viral for his unique way of taking a nap—flat on his back with his limbs extended downward, much like a vampire lying in a coffin.

The video, which was shared to TikTok on October 15 by Peppercorn's owner, Marcus Picov-Aida, under the handle @marcuspicovaida, has amassed more than 2.6 million views to date and has led to plenty of laughter online ahead of Halloween.

Viewers were able to see Peppercorn positioned behind a pillow on a comfortable couch, peacefully sleeping in a position akin to the iconic repose of classic movie vampires like Dracula and Dark Shadows' ghoul, Barnabas Collins. Peppercorn's rigid, corpse-like posture, with all limbs pulled straight down, contrasts with his apparent relaxation on what appears to be an ordinary evening.

An overlaid text on the video read: "Why peppercorn sleep like that."

Peppercorn, now known as "Count Catula" thanks to his peculiar sleeping habit, has sparked a flurry of amused comments among viewers online. As people prepare for Halloween—a time traditionally packed with ghosts, ghouls and costumes—Peppercorn's distinctive style of slumber has provided many with a good laugh.

TikTok users have poked fun at the comical moment, with many drawing comparisons between the feline and other spooky pop culture symbols.

"He looks like Sylvester the cat when he gets knocked out and is seeing stars," one viewer, @mariamty13, said.

Sylvester J. Pussycat Sr. is a fictional cartoon character seen mostly in Looney Tunes. A male cat, Sylvester is known for his black and white fur, which strongly resembles Peppercorn's.

Another, @girlmillion, added: "Doesn't [want to] wrinkle his suit."

"We are all gathered here today to pay our respects to the late Peppercorn," a third viewer, @nanspansies, said.

Another, @frecklefaceplant, added: "Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today."

"He was Dracula in his previous life," another, @xxs7nxx, added.

"He's in his Victorian era," another, @yesterdaypresenttomorrow, added.

"Count Catula is resting during [the] day," @frida6691, said.

Another, @muruinen, added: "He is channeling his inner Dracula maybe."
