Owner Sets Up Cam To Watch Dog Home AloneâUnsure if 'Appalled or Impressed'
A moment of curiosity from a dog owner has delighted the internet after they discovered what their dog gets up to while they're away.
"I always wondered what my dog was up to when I wasn't home, so I installed a camera," the owner stated in a viral video on Instagram that has now been viewed more than 500,000 times.
The video posted by @lilithanbear features the moment their clever Maltese dog leaped into action. With a carefree attitude, the pup confidently used the furniture as a launchpad to propel itself onto the kitchen counter, using some impressive gymnastic skills that would leave any dog owner both amused and in awe.
In the caption, @lilithanbear explained "This situation has been resolved, but I don't know whether to be appalled or impressed? I'm thinking the latter."
In the comments, people rushed to share their reactions. "Nothing to see here... just home alone doing some parkour," joked viewer @monicaqueenfitness., referring to exercise discipline that is centered around navigating obstacles using physical techniques like running, climbing, and jumping.
While @merleandtri_ said "This is hilarious! Smart pup!"
"He thinks he's a cat," joked @marymorelli1.
Others were seriously impressed by the dog's secret antics. "Definitely impressed... imagine the cognitive thinking it took..." said @is1natural63. While @pagegsbynat said: "Living his best life."
Interestingly, small dogs like Maltese are more likely to be into climbing than larger pets. A 2013 study conducted by the University of Sydney revealed a correlation between a dog's size and their behavior.
Researchers surveyed over 8,000 dog owners across 80 breeds using the Canine Behavioral Assessment and Research Questionnaire and found that 33 out of 36 behaviors—such as mounting objects and increased fear and excitability—were linked to a dog's height, weight, and skull shape. This research could explain why the Maltese, with its petite stature, is particularly drawn to scaling furniture.
This is far from the first time a hilarious dog moment has been caught on camera. Like the pet that was filmed having a "tantrum" after being sent downstairs for being naughty.
Earlier this month, another dog left people in stitches after a student checked her pet cam during class, only to see her dog, border collie Colt, tied up in a blanket.
In the hilarious video, watched almost 6 million times, Colt gets caught up in a throw, thrashing his body around, jumping and tripping over his own feet.
