Dog Rescued From Home After Owner Died Adopted on the Spot by New Family

A dog found in a home with another canine and six cats after his owner passed away finally received his happy ending nearly a year later.

Frankie lived at the James River Humane Society in North Dakota since November 2023 and no adopters showed interest in him, which confused staff members since Frankie is "a sweet and loving boy." A representative from the animal shelter told Newsweek via Facebook that all the staff and volunteers adored Frankie. High school employees would even take him home for an evening where he was nothing but well-behaved.

Thankfully, nearly a year after he was found, Frankie's happy ending came on October 13 when his forever family came forward and adopted him on the spot. His owners didn't need another visit. They knew Frankie was the dog for them. And by the giant smile on Frankie's face in the humane society's Facebook post, Frankie knew he was going home.

Part of the caption reads: "This afternoon, Frankie chose his new family and was adamant that they take him home that very moment - he was over being at the shelter!"

While it's only been a few days since he was brought home for good, Frankie settled in quickly. He loves running around in his new backyard, although, he's still learning how to use the doggy door. He's had no accidents and doesn't bark.

"I spoke with Frankie's adopters recently and they said that he is doing great!" the representative said. "They are very happy with him."

And to say he's been getting spoiled would be an understatement. His owners have been giving him treats and little nibbles of blueberry muffins and ice cream.

Frankie met his owners' family where he received tons of "hugs and pats from their grandchildren." He's had a play date with his doggy cousin, Ellie, who was also adopted from an animal shelter a few years ago.

Viewers were overjoyed about Frankie's happy ending, flooding the comment section of the Facebook post with their praise for his adopters.

"Awe Frankie will be spoiled rotten," said a Facebook user, while a second added: "He will have the BEST life now!"

A third person chimed in: "Very happy you found your guy, I can tell he'll have a wonderful life with you. Thank you for adopting."
