Man Ends Up With 13 Pet Border Collies As He 'Keeps Falling in Love'
Animal lovers have fallen head-over-heels for a family consisting of one man and his 13 pet dogs.
Robert Muttenhammer lives in Germany with his 13 Border Collies, who have become social media stars since Muttenhammer started sharing videos of them to TikTok just days ago.
Speaking to Newsweek, ceramist Muttenhammer explained he never set out to have 13 dogs, but when his first collie, Jack, had a litter with his female, Sunny, 10 years ago, "you keep a puppy and it goes on and on".
"You try to be sensible but you keep falling in love," he admitted.
His first video alone has racked up over 8 million views, and shows his Border Collies exploring a sun-drenched forest before he orders them to pose for a photograph.
And, just like that, they all gather together on a mossy rock, expertly obeying his commands to sit, move over and come closer, for the perfect family shot. In a second video, one pup, Raya, takes a little more coaxing, but the result is just as magic.
Border Collies are popular around the world as both family pets and working dogs thanks to being affectionate, good with children and friendly towards other dogs.
The American Kennel Club notes the breed's remarkable intelligence, making them easily trained so long as their owners give them the time and energy needed.
TikTok users adore Muttenhammer's many videos, shared to his account @robert.muttenhammer, with one user summing it all up in a comment: "What in the border collie heaven?!"
Many others pointed out the "orderliness" of how well he keeps his 13 dogs, with one joking: "I can't even get my 2 daughters to look at the camera at the same time."
And one professional photographer asked for "pointers", as "human subjects definitely don't behave this well".
Owning and caring for 13 dogs may seem like a lot of work, but Muttenhammer, who lives in the Bavarian Forest and works as an artist, is "with my dogs 24 hours a day".
As for how well-trained and well-behaved his dogs are, Muttenhammer told Newsweek: "For me, it's normal and not impressive.
"Many dog owners are too inconsistent and give the dog treats instead of joy, love, closeness and consistency.
"You also have to be strict so that the dogs know that you can always protect them. A dog is a child and not a bodyguard."
