Dog Owner Ponders Mystery of Chewed Marker Pen, but There's a Clear Suspect

A perplexed dog owner has taken to social media to share her confusion after discovering a chewed-up marker pen, but the guilty culprit doesn't seem to be too far away.

The hilarious clip, shared on TikTok by Chloe (@watercoloursbychloe), shows the purple marker pen, which was chewed apart and barely recognizable through all the teeth marks. Not far away was Chloe's Australian shepherd, who appeared to have some unusual purple-colored markings.

The TikTok video has gone viral since it was posted on April 22, with more than 994,700 views and over 61,900 likes. Layered over the footage, Chloe joked in the caption: "I wonder who ate the marker pen..."

Still, it isn't clear who committed the crime, and the mystery remains unsolved.

The effects can vary depending on how much ink a dog ingests, the website Dogster says, noting that consuming small amounts, such as a pen's worth, isn't likely to be toxic for dogs. This can lead to an ink-stained tongue or fur, but the dog shouldn't become ill as a result.

An Australian shepherd causing havoc may not be surprising to other owners, especially those who know just how energetic and mischievous these pups can be.

The American Kennel Club (AKC) says that these dogs require a great deal of daily exercise to keep their energy levels under control and their minds stimulated. They also thrive when they have plenty of companionship, as they can become destructive when they're left to their own devices for too long.

Undoubtedly, Australian shepherds enjoy long walks or running around a fenced yard, but they love nothing more than being given a role to fulfill. The AKC recommends herding, shepherding children or competing in dog events such as agility or obedience.

The mystery of who chewed the marker pen has certainly captivated attention online, and fortunately for the mischievous pup, many social media users came to its defense.

After becoming frustrated with her dog's cheeky antics, Chloe jested in the caption that she has an "Australian shepherd available, free to a good home."

With over 200 comments on the viral video, plenty of people insisted that the dog didn't do it and that the owner shouldn't consider the mystery solved.

One comment reads: "Currently you have no proof."

Despite the abundance of evidence, another person said: "That's a mystery that may never be solved."

"She wanted a new hair color," joked one TikTok user.

Another TikToker wrote: "Well I have no idea. Who was it? I only see the bestest dog."

Newsweek reached out to @watercoloursbychloe via Instagram for comment and could not verify the details of the case.
