Take a Look at the Best Costumes at NYC Halloween Dog Parade

The streets of Manhattan's East Village were barking with excitement on Saturday as hundreds of costumed pups took part in the 34th Annual Tompkins Square Halloween Dog Parade in New York City.

From postal workers to witches, and even a Bob look-alike from this year's Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, the beloved parade turned Avenue A into a catwalk (or should that be dogwalk?) of pure Halloween magic.

Established in the 1980s, the fall dog show tradition saw plenty of owners and their pets get involved in creative costumes.

Started 34 years ago, the Tompkins Square Halloween Dog Parade has become one of the city's most anticipated events, initially designed to raise money for the park's dog run—the first and largest in the city.

However, this year saw a significant shift in tradition as the much-loved costume contest wasn't part of the day, while commercial photographer and organizer of the parade since 2020, Joseph Borduin, announced this would be his final year coordinating the event.

"I'm done. No more," Borduin told the Gothamist. "I need another, bigger entity to take over this beast because it's just too much for a small dog park to handle."

To celebrate the parade, at Newsweek we have collected our favorite costumes incase you missed them.

7. Postal Worker
Not a usual favorite for our canine friends, one dog donned an adorable take on the USPS worker outfit. Does this mean he has to bark at...himself?

6. Spooky Spider
One small pup swapped four legs for eight in a scary-yet-sweet spider costume complete with sparkling details.

5. Cinderella
There was no missing the ball for one princess in the parade, who showed up in a sparkling gown that matched her owner's.

4. Austin Powers
Yeah, baby! One groovy dog channeled everyone's favorite British spy, complete with shaggy wig and iconic glasses.

3. Pizza Slice
It wouldn't be New York City without a nod to its most beloved food. One pup served up serious cuteness dressed as a giant pepperoni pizza slice.

2. Convict dog
Archie was a firm favorite in his jail-inspired outfit. Despite his "bad pet" label, we can't help but think he's probably a good boy at heart.

1. Beetlejuice Bob
This year we've seen the much-awaited sequel to iconic Halloween movie Beetlejuice. Inspired by the sequel, one dog came as the fan favorite "Bob" in a hilariously oversized costume.

If your dog loves to dress up and you have funny and adorable videos or pictures of your pet, we'd love to share them. Send them to life@newsweek.com with some details about your best friend, and they could appear in our Pet of the Week lineup.
