Owner Thinks Dog Is Sad She's Leaving, Until Grandparents Film Response
A woman from Arizona thought her pup would be devastated without her after leaving him at his grandparents' home for the weekend, but he had different plans.
In a viral post shared on TikTok on Thursday by @the.lab.woody, the poster can be seen hugging her chocolate Labrador retriever, kissing him goodbye before leaving for the weekend, fearing he would be sad and bored without her.
However, the following clip shows the dog, Woody, having the best time of his life, playing fetch in his grandparents' pool, not even remembering that he has a mom away on vacation. "Woody said SEE YA," reads a caption shared with the hilarious video.
The poster, 27-year-old Hannah Greenberg from Phoenix, Arizona, told Newsweek that Woody loves staying at his grandparents when she is out of town, because, there, he gets spoiled and has his own kind of vacation.
"He gets to swim in their pool every day, gets all the attention in the world from them and their neighbors, and there is no limit to the amount of treats he is given," Greenberg said.
"Whenever Woody goes to grandma and grandpa's house for the weekend, he comes home with a full heart and an even fuller belly. His grandparents definitely spoil him, but we wouldn't have it any other way!" she added.
All dogs have a favorite person, and unfortunately for their owners, it is not always you. In fact, as an article published by Newsweek last year found, your pup's favorite person can be anyone from the sitter, to the grandpa, or even a neighbor.
In the 2023 article, Kait Hembree, veterinary behavior nurse and head of training and behavior specialist at GoodPup, said that, when your dog loves you, they will often do anything to be touched by or be near you.
They will also wiggle their tail when near you, follow you around, keep eye contact with you, and just generally feel happy and relaxed around you.
However, don't worry if you realize you are not your pup's number one, you can easily change their mind with lots of positive interactions and treats.
Even if you are not their favorite human, that does not mean your dog doesn't love you, or that he will forget about you when that person is around. Dogs are not just faithful to their owners because they depend on us for food and shelter, but also because they actually do love us.
In fact, studies have proved that when they are near their owners, or other people they love, they release oxytocin, also known as the love hormone.
The video quickly went viral on social media and has so far received over 2.7 million views and more than 604,000 likes on the platform.
One user, DeFactoVicto, commented: "Yyea I think HE'S the one that went on vacation."
Karissa Beer posted: "Grandparents house looks like a blast not [going to] lie."
AuntKath1024 wrote: "He was clearly devastated and heartbroken."
Kasey Mingle Troupe added: "He's giving only grandchild vibes."
