A woman from California couldn't believe her eyes when her foster dog finally decided to cuddle with her for the first time unexpectedly, leaving her in tears.

In a TikTok video shared on Sunday by @themobtrio, the poster is filmed chilling on the couch with one of her two pups and Giuseppe, a boxer she is currently fostering, helping him gain confidence so he can find himself a forever home.

"POV [point of view]: your fearful foster cuddles for the first time," reads a caption shared with the emotional clip, which has melted hearts among internet users. Newsweek reached out to @themobtrio for comment via email. We could not verify the details of the video.

Pet homelessness is a growing problem in America, where an average of 17,260 animals enter shelters nationwide every single day, taking the total annual number to 6.3 million.

While some of them go on to find loving homes, others face a much-harsher reality. In fact, around 920,000 surrendered animals are euthanized every year, often for a lack of space in the facilities hosting them.

Since shelters are constantly overwhelmed, and this issue doesn't seem to have an end in sight, you can help the homeless animals by fostering them, potentially saving their life as they wait to find a forever home.

Pups who are usually up for foster caring include those who come from a history of abuse; puppies who still haven't had their vaccinations done; sick dogs, or those who've recently been through surgery; and any other canines that the shelter couldn't host for lack of space.

An article by BetterPet, medically reviewed by Dr. Erica Irish and Dr. Jennifer Schott, says that there are a few things to consider before taking a foster pet in. These include the time and commitment this requires and the costs you may have to face.

However, most importantly, you need to understand what you will be responsible for, and what your family will be expected to do during this journey.

If you are still happy to give a homeless pup a chance at life, you can find an animal shelter near you that works with fosters and fill in an application, asking every question you may have before taking on this role.

The Animal Humane Society says that foster carers who apply to host a pet for them receive all the information about the animal's story, size, length of stay, and any other needs they would have in foster care, so that they can find the perfect fit for their lifestyle.

The heartwarming video quickly went viral on social media, receiving over 2.1 million views and more than 448,500 likes on the platform.
