Internet Asks How Rescue Cat Is Adjusting to Newborn—Gets Unexpected Answer

When welcoming a baby, some parents might be concerned about how their pets will respond to the new addition. But that certainly doesn't appear to be the case for Diana the rescue cat, who is settling into her big-sister role just fine.

Throughout her pregnancy, Andrea McCue, of Scottsdale, Arizona, noticed how affectionate Diana was. She told Newsweek that the cat would even lay on her baby bump and "purr almost every night." It was clear that Diana was already forming a bond with the baby, and when Cannon was born in August, her love only grew stronger.

Indeed, McCue often documents Diana's antics on TikTok (@myhusbandandmycat), and in October, she posted an adorable clip showing exactly how much the cat loves her new sibling. The video shows McCue cradling Cannon in her arms while Diana joined in by cuddling them both. As Diana and Cannon snoozed together, the cat had an undeniable smile on her face.

The video showing how well Diana is adapting to being a big sister has gone viral with over 1.9 million views and almost 400,000 likes on TikTok.

McCue told Newsweek: "Since Day One, whenever we lay on the couch, the recliner, or on the bed with baby Cannon, Diana is never far away. It's such pure love from our sweet Diana, and it truly fills our hearts with joy.

"If I have the baby on my chest, Diana is always near us and carefully cozies her way up to me and then rests her head on him. Cannon has never had any allergic reaction or anything, so we let them lay on us together."

While the couple have other pets in their home, McCue said that Diana is by far "the most affectionate." The cat just loves to be around her family and wouldn't want to miss out on cuddles with Cannon. So much so, it has been a long-standing joke that the rescue cat has a severe case of FOMO [fear of missing out].

It certainly hasn't been an easy ride for McCue and her husband Cutter, though, as she said that 2023 was "the hardest year" of their lives. But, through all the pain and sadness, Diana was right by their side and gave them so much love and support.

"We started the year off losing our dog of 14 years to old age, and then we experienced a stillbirth in August 2023," McCue added.

"I could tell Diana experienced great sadness when we lost our dog, who was her puppy brother. They grew up together and were both rescued from the Austin Humane Society. We could also tell that she understood our pregnancy loss because she laid on us the whole time, comforting us," McCue said.

After going through such pain and loss, it warms McCue's heart to see Diana curling up with their rainbow baby, Cannon. These memories will be all the more special for them.

The TikTok Reaction

McCue never imagined her video would capture so much attention online, but she has loved seeing Diana (named after Princess Diana) and Cannon's friendship touch so many hearts.

In just a matter of days, the viral clip has amassed more than 1,650 comments on TikTok, as many people praised Diana's unconditional love.

One comment reads: "I think it's safe to say she loves the baby."

Another person joked: "It's so sweet of you to get your cat a baby."

A third TikTok user wrote: "She looks pretty adjusted to me."
