Woman Setting Up Board Game After 10 Years Finds Heartbreaking Surprise

A couple of dog owners found a board game they hadn't played in years, and what they noticed when they took a closer look at it has left internet users in tears.

In a viral TikTok video shared in October under the username @crafty_mofos, the poster shows the old Santorini board game that they had stored away for years, zooming in on a few particular details, namely loose hairs belonging to their late dogs.

After the emotional discovery, the poster made sure to collect the hairs, and carefully placed them inside small glass containers, one for each of their pups: Jobu, a shepherd dog, and Pockets, and Daisy, two dachshunds, who lived between 2007 and 2015, 2008 and 2019, and 2007 and 2023, respectively.

"Playing a board game you haven't played in years and find that is covered in your [late] dogs hair," layover text in the clip reads. And a caption adds: "Such a pleasant surprise. Probably hadn't played in 10 years."

If you are a dog owner, you've probably heard that each of our years is equal to seven of theirs, but experts say that it is not actually that simple.

Dr. Travis Arndt previously told Newsweek that this method of counting dogs' age is likely inaccurate in most cases. He said that each dog is different and various factor contribute to their rate of aging, most importantly their size.

Generally, Arndt added, the first year of a medium-sized dog equals about 15 human years, while the second is more like nine human years, and then every year after that is equivalent to about five human years.

The American Kennel Club (AKC) says that small dogs live much longer than their larger counterparts. The average life span for minute breeds is between 10 and 15 years; for medium-sized dogs, it is 10 to 13 years; and for larger ones, 8 to 10 years.

However, each pup is unique, and their health also plays a great role in their longevity. One of the biggest threats to a dog's health is obesity, which affects over 34 percent of canines in America, according to the AKC.

This condition increases your dog's risk of developing diseases such as diabetes and pancreatitis, which can be fatal for your pup.
