Dog Owner Worries All Week Over Fireworks, Can't Believe His Reaction
A dog's bravery during a firework display on Bonfire Night has left viewers online in stitches.
The French bulldog, who is based in the U.K., was captured standing in his garden nonchalantly as his neighbors let off a series of fireworks to mark Guy Fawkes Night. The dog's owner, Milly Powell, shared a recording of the moment to TikTok on November 3. It has since been viewed more than 942,000 times and has led to plenty of amused comments from pet owners, many of whom say the dog's unique attitude could be down to his breed.
Powell, who is known online as @millyrosepowell, told Newsweek that the pet is "lazy and very cute."
Guy Fawkes Night, also known as Fireworks Night or Bonfire Night, is celebrated on November 5 in the U.K. It commemorates the failed Gunpowder Plot of 1605, in which Guy Fawkes and his fellow conspirators attempted to blow up the Houses of Parliament to assassinate King James I, and restore a Catholic monarch to the throne.
The foiling of the plot is now celebrated with fireworks, bonfires, and the burning of effigies of Guy Fawkes—all to symbolize the capture and punishment of the conspirators. This annual event has become a long-standing tradition in British culture.
Viewers online were able to see the 3-year-old French bulldog, named Tanki, standing in his own backyard, looking relaxed and poised while his neighbors set off several loud fireworks. The dog's unexpected reaction has come as a surprise to some, as pets tend to experience significant distress and anxiety during firework displays. Owners are often advised to keep their pets indoors and in a safe place if fireworks are going to be let off in their local area, to prevent any panic in the pet.
An overlaid text on the video read: "I've never known a dog to be unbothered about anything."
"I've been worried about tonight all week, turns out he quite enjoys the sparkly loud lights," the dog's owner, Milly Powell, said.
The post has been liked more than 76,000 times since it was shared to the platform, and has garnered more than 2,000 comments. Some commenters have chosen to poke fun at the dog's unbothered attitude, and link it to his breed.
"Because Frenchies are deaf to anything other than the opening of a crisp packet," one viewer said.
Another added: "Frenchies are crackheads that aren't phased by anything."
"One of my four is like this … The pug. Stands others like what fireworks I don't hear any. Yet hears a cheese wrapped three houses down," a third commented.
A fourth added: "Swear it's a Frenchie thing mines the same."
