Owner Asks if She Has 'World's Most Dramatic Dog' Over What He Did Mid-Walk

The internet has fallen head-over-heels for what may be the world's most dramatic dog, a Jack Russell Terrier named Hulk.

Ph.D. student Jess Irving, 33, lives in Cheshire, England, with her pup, and recently set up a TikTok account, @hulkythejrt, dedicated to his antics.

Set up just days ago, Hulk has already gone viral, as Irving captured the moment her dog called a halt to their walk—because he had stood on a leaf.

Speaking to Newsweek, Irving described 6-year-old Hulk as "so smart," but "he does have sensitive feet" after getting a nail bed infection five years ago.

"We've had similar dramatics after standing in dog poo, on a slug, when the path is too stony," she said. "Some days he comes out like he's ready to audition for an episode of [British soap opera] EastEnders!"

In a video shared on November 6, which has 1.5 million views and over 155,000 likes, Hulk can be seen standing stock-still on the sidewalk, which is dotted with fallen leaves.

His paw lifted delicately off the ground, Irving asks in a sweet voice: "Poor baby, what's happened?"

She then zooms in on the culprit: a leaf is stuck to Hulk's paw.

"It was just a leaf on your foot," she tells the dog, and removes the leaf before asking him sweetly: "Are you OK?"

She wrote over the video: "World's most dramatic dog," and joked in the caption: "There is a reason why his prefix is HRH [His Royal Highness]."

Irving told Newsweek that Jack Russells like Hulk can be a "misunderstood breed," with an old mindset that they need a "firm hand, which in my experience is so far from the truth — they're very sensitive!"

The breed was initially developed in the U.K. to take part in fox hunts, but are now also popular family pets. They are described by the American Kennel Club as intelligent and confident, affectionate toward their family, and good with other dogs.

Despite his dramatics, Hulk is "fantastic to live with", Irving said.

"He's got the typical working dog exercise levels, so we're always out walking, training, or [doing] scent work," she said—he can always tell when a path they're walking on has spiky horse chestnuts or holly leaves, and will then ask to be carried.

Jess Irving never expected Hulk's video to go viral, but loves that she can share her pup's dramatics with everyone. She called Jack Russell Terriers like Hulk a misunderstood breed. TikTok users loved Hulk's video, with many pet owners able to relate to the clip. One wrote: "My puppy will drop herself [through] dirt when a leaf is stuck to her, like it's attacking her."

Others showered Hulk with extravagant sympathy, one writing: "Sending prayers in this time of great need," and another offering: "Thoughts. Prayers. Oscar nominations."

Irving had "no idea" Hulk's video would go viral, and said: "Hulk is my absolute world, so to see other people enjoying some of his dramatics is fabulous.

"I really do think with dogs, the most important thing is building a solid, trusting relationship. He knows he can count on me in any situation—even from a dangerous leaf!"
