Woman Buys New Dryer But the Door Keeps Opening, So She Sets Up a Camera

A woman who couldn't understand why her dryer kept opening partway through a cycle has left internet users in hysterics about the unexpected cause.

For a while, Jenny Rodriguez from Texas thought there was something wrong with her brand-new dryer as she noticed that the door kept opening mid-cycle. She said in a now-viral TikTok post that she even had it checked over multiple times, but no one could figure out why it was opening.

Rodriguez took matters into her own hands eventually by using her phone to record the dryer during its cycle and see what was causing the door to swing open. The idea was to send the video to the technician and show them the issue; however, when she watched it back, she was stunned to see what—or who—the culprit was.

The hilarious footage, which was posted on TikTok (@jennnynrodriguez_) shows her dog Max using his teeth to prize the door open and stop the dryer. The clip has left internet users in stitches, leading to more than 969,000 views and over 187,000 likes on TikTok in just a matter of days.

Many mischievous dogs like to cause mayhem in their homes, but it is usually by chewing things they shouldn't or treading muddy paws through the house. Getting frustrated with the dryer is certainly an unusual habit, but Rodriguez said on TikTok that Max hates loud noises and was opening the door to make it stop.

Loud and unexpected sounds can be stressful for certain dogs, as the American Kennel Club (AKC) highlights fireworks, thunder, and loud vehicles as the most common triggers for noise phobia.

There are ways to help an anxious dog cope with this fear, however, as the AKC suggests distracting them with games or activities, rewarding calm behavior, and provide them with a safe area to retreat to, such as a bed or a crate. If possible, it can also be beneficial to condition a canine to certain noises when they are still a puppy. It can take months to overcome their fears as an older dog, but it is also possible to condition an older dog if you are patient.

The Social Media Reaction

Thankfully, Rodriguez saw the humor in her dog's antics, as the caption on TikTok read: "I don't know whether to be mad or impressed." Many people even said that Rodriguez should still send the video to the technician anyway, as they certainly wouldn't have predicted this cause.

After the clip went viral, many internet users lauded the dog's genius solution to make the noisy dryer stop, and it has already amassed 740 comments online.

One TikTok user commented: "protect your peace king."

Another person wrote: "You wondering who keeps opening it and he's wondering who keeps closing it lol [laugh out loud]."

"Max needs some noise cancelling headphones and a nap," posted a third TikTok user.

One comment reads: "That's so intelligent, you can't even be mad."
