Dog's Reaction to Being Told Grandma Is Coming Delights Internet: 'Stop!'

A dog owner from New Jersey told her golden retriever that grandma was going to visit soon—and his reaction has melted hearts among social media users.

In a viral TikTok video shared on Saturday by @goldenlifeofsammy, the pup, Sammy, can be seen lying on the floor playing with a toy, when his mom suddenly asks him "guess who you're going to see today?"

Intrigued, the pup turns his attention to her, as if asking "who?" Then the poster says the magic word "grandma," and the pup immediately changes demeanor, holding his head right up as if double-checking that he heard that right.

"The grandma obsession is real," says a caption shared with the heart-warming video.

Sammy seems to have perfectly understood what his mom told him, but do dogs actually have the ability to comprehend our language?

As reported by VCA Animal Hospitals, canines can be as smart as 6-to-12-months-old human babies, and have a similar understanding of our language as them. Through repetition, they both learn to associate certain words with objects or actions.

While many scientists believe that our pups are indeed able to understand specific words that we teach them, some don't think that dogs have the ability to comprehend full sentences.

Whether or not Sammy was able to get the entire conversation, he definitely understood the part where he was about to see his number one human again.

Most dogs have a favorite person, and as the video clearly shows, Sammy's is definitely his grandma. Indeed, a dog's favorite is not always their owner or caregiver. In fact, it can be anyone from their walker to their grandparents.

Vet Explains Pets says in an article written by Dr. Jess Kirk that every dog is unique, and can pick their favorite person for very different reasons.

However, the factors that most influence a pup's choice include time spent together, interaction and engagement, personality traits, physical traits, routine, trust and respect, as well as past experiences with the person.

Sometimes dogs can also have multiple favorites, and create a special bond with every one of them, each for a different reason.

If you think you are not among your pup's top people, you can easily become so by spending more quality time with them, like going for hikes or playing in the yard, and sneaking them a few extra treats every now and again.

The video quickly went viral on social media and it has so far received over 2.3 million views and 123,000 likes on the platform.

One user, Chandni, commented: "He said, 'Stop! Don't lie to me!"

Unknown said: "Why do all dogs love Grandma, it is always a like I don't exist when my mom is here."

Donna added: "My daughter's golden retriever and her shepherd when they find out I'm coming over they sit and wait in the window for me."
