Woman Baffled by Holiday Decorations Disappearing, Then Remembers One Thing

A suspect was quickly identified in the case of missing edible holiday decorations—but many leaped to defend the culprit from any accusations.

Dog owner Mack, 24, who posts to TikTok under the username @mack.graebe, recently decorated her house in time for the holidays. She shared a video showing off the sweet decorations, with dried oranges hanging from greenery on the ceiling and banisters of the home.

But, as she revealed in the video, some of the decorations were going missing—particularly "all the dried oranges from hip-level down." The short clip shows the decorations hanging up, then pans to show a smiling golden retriever, who, believe it or not, is just about hip-level.

The retriever, who features prominently on her TikTok account, is named Riddle, and Mack wrote in the caption: "Evil Riddle."

But TikTok users weren't quite as prepared to jump to conclusions, as hundreds of comments defended the pup, one writing: "He actually told me he doesn't even like oranges."

"So did you find out who did it?" another asked innocently, while one insisted it's "impossible to say where they went."

And another declared the case of the missing orange slices would be "forever an unsolved mystery."

Viewers fell in love so quickly with Riddle that just one day after the clip was posted to TikTok on November 14, it had over 1.1 million likes and 4.6 million views.

Some also worried for Riddle's health after he (allegedly) ate the oranges, as one put it: "Me, panicking and googling 'can dogs eat oranges' before deciding if I can laugh."

In good news for Riddle and his legions of new fans, it's perfectly healthy for dogs to eat oranges and other fruits, including apples and watermelons, according to Purina.

Oranges are as good for dogs as they are humans, coming full of nutrients including potassium, fiber and vitamin C. However, Purina nutritionist Karina Carbo-Johnson warned oranges should remain a snack or treat, and should not make up the bulk of a dog's diet.

Riddle the golden retriever was the main suspect in the case of the half-eaten holiday decorations. But an army of fans leaped to his defense. It's clear from Mack's other videos on her page that she and Riddle have a close bond.

Her channel is filled with clips of the young golden out for walks in the countryside, cuddled up next to her in bed, fetching the ball in the back yard, and—of course—getting plenty of treats.
