Dog Thinking Owner's Football Rage Is Aimed at Her Goes Viral
A dog's reaction to her owner's impassioned cheers while watching football has left viewers online in stitches.
Brandon Schmitt had been captured standing up and raging at an Ohio State football match, a response that the dog he shares with wife Kara thought was directed at her.
Kara had filmed the 2-year-old vizsla, named Maple, hiding round a corner as her husband's passionate cheers filled their Colorado home. The video, which went viral after being shared to TikTok under @khaotically_kara on November 2, sparked laughter among viewers online.
"I started making TikTok videos in 2021 with the goal of making people laugh," Kara, 27, told Newsweek. "Maple, the star of the video, is a vizsla who, as you can tell, is a bit sensitive."
Her husband had never imagined that his intense support for Ohio State football would upset the family dog. Known for his boisterous enthusiasm during games, Brandon's cheery yells and claps were only meant to celebrate his team's performance. However, Maple interpreted the loud enthusiasm as being directed at her, causing her to hide.
An overlaid text on the video read: "My husband is very 'passionate' about football and my dog thinks his yelling is targeted at her."
The short clip then transitioned to show Brandon cuddling Maple, reassuring her that his heightened state was not at all driven by anger or directed at her.
"In Brandon's defense, Maple is scared of her own shadow, people wearing large hats, and once, an innocent traffic cone," Kara said.
Despite her timid nature, Kara assured that Maple is very well loved and taken care of.
"Some would say that she is quite spoiled," she added.
The huge response from viewers online overwhelmed Kara, who did not expect the video to get more than 3.6 million views.
"I am surprised at how many views this video has received," she said. "However, I am not shocked about the amount of comments Maple has gotten about her cuteness.
"I may be a bit biased, but I am convinced she is one of the prettiest dogs in the United States."
The viral video has not only put Maple's sensitive temperament on full display but has also spurred humorous reactions concerning Brandon and his love of the sport.
"As for the online response regarding my husband, I think he will now be wearing oven mitts to muffle his loud clapping during any sport spectating in our home," Kara said.
"This would make me so sad hahaha my husband would never watch football again," one viewer, @tnicolev36, had commented.
@jordan710_, added: "The cuddles at the end made me very happy."
"I appreciate everyone who has interacted with the video and followed for more silly content," Kara said.
