Hilarity Over What 'Clingy' Golden Retriever Does To Stay Close to Owner
A dog's desire to be by their owner's side at all times has warmed the hearts of viewers online.
Honey, a golden retriever, was captured climbing a steep ladder to join her owner in the attic of their home. The sweet moment, which was shared to TikTok by Kailee Howard under @kaileehoward9, has since garnered more than 424,000 views. Viewers were able to see Honey's determination to stay close to Howard, by following her up a narrow flight of stairs into the dark loft. Howard, of Texas, says that Honey's clinginess is just a daily feature of their lives, despite how much laughter it has led to among TikTok users.
"Honey loves to follow me everywhere, including the attic," Howard told Newsweek. "She decided to climb the ladder to follow me upstairs as I was getting down our Christmas decorations."
"Show me your pet is clingy without actually saying your pet is clingy," Howard had said in the post.
As the camera followed Honey's journey up the ladder, viewers saw her remarkable act of loyalty and affection, further evidenced by the canine's ever-wagging tail. Despite Honey's successful climb, she encountered difficulty descending, prompting Howard to physically carry her back down to the ground.
"She climbed up the ladder into the attic where I was, then I had to carry her down because she was not able to climb down as it was too dangerous and I did not want her to get hurt," Howard said.
The video's latter part also features Willow, a Catahoula mix, and another family dog, anxiously observing from below. Howard's household is completed by Zoey, a beagle who, although not in the video, is part of the trio of canines that bring joy to the 25-year-old and her husband's lives.
"As I carried her down, you can see her sister Willow watching us to make sure we made it down safely. She's the mom of the group," Howard added.
Known for their friendly and patient nature, golden retrievers often exhibit a strong attachment to their owners, making them one of the most-cherished breeds for families. Honey's determination to follow Howard, even in precarious situations, spotlights the breed's reputation for close companionship.
