Internet Obsessed With Golden Retriever Learning How to 'Whisper Bark'
Barking dogs can be a nuisance for the neighbors, but a dog owner from the Netherlands recently found a way to make her dog do so quietly.
The woman and her golden retriever puppy, named Juultje, recently went viral on social media after she shared a clip showcasing the pup's newly acquired skills to whisper bark.
In a post shared on TikTok (@juultjethegolden) on Sunday, the pup can be seen practicing her quiet barks in the living room with her mom, barking each time lower until she achieved the perfect whisper bark.
Barking is normal for dogs; in fact, it's a form of communication for them. However, if your dog has suddenly started barking more than usual for no apparent reason, you may want to double check what may be going on in their life.
The Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA) explains that excessive barking could be a sign of health issues, like ear problems.
If dogs bark when you leave them alone, they may be experiencing distress when you are not present—or even separation anxiety in more extreme cases. They could also be barking out of boredom.
To stop your dog's newly acquired excessive barking problem, you should make sure your dog has enough enrichment throughout the day to keep it busy and happy. However, if the barking continues even though you've established a good routine, you could check with a vet for any health issues.
The video quickly went viral on TikTok, so far receiving over 325,100 views and 32,900 likes on the platform.
One user, @Gavin.woodss, commented: "I know it's a sound but why does the dog sound so human."
Another user named Will said, "My little girly never really barked. she would look at me like she was disappointed."
Commenter Mary King wrote, "Aww I call them 'air barks' with my dog. Whisper bark makes more sense though."
Another TikTok user commented, "I have a mother-in-law for you to train."
And commenter Mauricio Cifuentes35 wrote, "Omg he's gorgeous what a great whisper bark."
Newsweek reached out to juultjethegolden for comment via email. We could not verify the details of the case.
