Senior Cat Insisting On Getting Vacuum Cleaned Shocks Internet
Most cats are afraid of vacuum cleaners, but one called Marley has spent almost 16 years demanding to be vacuum-cleaned by his owner and he loves every minute of it.
In a post shared on Reddit on June 20, under the username Faris-Hilton, the feline be seen sitting on top of a leather couch, relaxing as his owner cleans his fur with a vacuum cleaner.
A caption shared with the clip explains: "My cat has been insisting on me vacuum cleaning him for almost 16 years."
The poster, Faris Khalifa, from Liverpool in the United Kingdom, told Newsweek that Marley, who was featured on the cover of Elle magazine a few years ago, is very social and very extra, and isn't afraid of much.
Khalifa said: "When he was young, I noticed he would run up to the vacuum while my other cat ran away. I was cleaning the couch one day when he stuck his face in the vacuum nozzle and seems to really enjoy it. For years I've been vacuum-cleaning him now."
While Marley loves the vacuum, most other cats will do anything in their power to stay away from them. But why are they so scared?
In an article posted on Catster, Dr. Luqman Javed DVM explains the five most common reasons behind this irrational fear.
It may stem from a lack of exposure, or unpleasant previous experiences. It could also be caused by the sound of the vacuum itself. However sometimes such fear can only be down their personality or even their genetics.
The video quickly went viral on social media, getting viewers from across Reddit. It has so far received over 21,000 upvotes and 456 comments on the platform.
One user, Sharkycharming, commented: "Wow! My cats sprint into another room if I even open the closet where the vacuum lives. Your kitty is so beautiful."
BuddingCannibal said: "Aw man you're so lucky! That's gotta cut down on shedding a TON. Meanwhile, my orange girl won't let me get more than 3 strokes of a brush and sheds like it's going out of style."
Misserdenstore added: "This is funny, because if my cat sees me open the closet with the vacuum cleaner, she instantly knows what's up, and yeets into another room."
