Owner Lets Labrador Outside After Storm — Reaction Melts Hearts

Woody the Labrador Retriever's owner told Newsweek how her dog found a silver lining when devastating floods brought his favorite thing to the front door...giant puddles.

Storm Bert caused chaos across the U.K, but Chelsea Mullock said Woody could not have been happier with the aftermath.

"He has a lot of loves in his life," she said: "Water, teddies, and toast."

The black lab's nickname is Woody Puddles, reflecting his love for a splash around, and Mullock's TikTok account @chelseamullock is full of clips of her three-year-old pup jumping in puddles and wading through rivers.

Labrador Retrievers are renowned for their love of water, with the American Kennel Club (AKC) listing the breed in their report of 16 Dog Breeds That Can Swim Easily. It writes that the labs were initially bred to retrieve waterfowl, and as family pets are always up for a swim and will happily spend hours retrieving from the water.

Mullock and Woody's home in the South Wales Valleys of the U.K. was hit by flooding due to Storm Bert, which in some areas wreaked devastation on November 24, with power cuts, heavy rain and strong winds.

But the devastation was eased for Mullock and Woody, when the puddles formed outside.

"I looked out the window and saw the flooding and knew he'd absolutely lose his mind if he saw it," said Mullock. "So I grabbed my phone, pressed record, and captured such a special moment."

A video shared on November 25 which has racked up over 160,000 views shows Mullock opening her front door to the water which has suddenly appeared overnight.

And without a second's hesitation, Woody dives right in, sprinting to the newfound puddle and rushing through it, tail wagging furiously, as Mullock encourages him: "What's happened? It's Christmas!", and throws a toy in for him to fetch.

TikTok users loved the clip, with one laughing: "Every night he prays for this, and it's finally happened. Labradors and water eh!"

"And it's right outside his front door," another wrote with a laughing emoji, while one admitted: "My dog makes me walk in the puddle so she doesn't have to, wish I could show her this."

And as one commenter put it: "Definition of silver lining."

Homes and roads were flooded during Storm Bert, with parts of Wales declaring a major incident, and flood warnings remaining in place in parts of the U.K. as further rainfall is expected, according to the BBC.

Flooding has been experienced across the world in recent weeks, including across parts of Spain, while the U.S. was devastated by the arrivals of Hurricane Helene and Hurricane Milton within days of each other.
