Golden Retriever Attempts To Hide From Owner, Doesn't Go To Plan

A golden retriever's failed attempt to play hide-and-seek has left internet viewers in hysterics, leaving social-media users simply applauding his valiant efforts instead.

Dog owner @jdcuppelman shared the hilarious video on TikTok. It showed the moment the poster wandered into the room looking for her golden retriever, named Buddy, who was doing his best to hide. While many people might find a secluded spot in the corner or behind a piece of furniture, the adorable golden found his hiding spot right in the middle of the room just by covering his eyes.

As the dog lay flat on his back, he put his front paws up to his face to keep his eyes covered, and in doing so, managed to conceal his whole body (obviously). Thankfully for him, @jdcuppelman played along with it and acted as if she had no idea where the dog had disappeared to.

The adorable clip has delighted internet users, who can't get enough of the golden retriever's attempts to hide. Since it was posted online on November 2, the video has amassed over 517,000 views and more than 110,300 likes on TikTok at the time of writing.

Newsweek has contacted @jdcuppelman via Instagram for comment.

Eventually, the sweet pup came out of his hiding spot and made it much easier for his owner to find him after all.

Although some dogs may struggle with the concept of hide-and-seek and it probably wouldn't be listed under their talents, it's still a great game to play. As the West Suburban Humane Society (WSHS) in Illinois says, it provides dogs with physical exercise as well as plenty of mental stimulation.

The challenge of finding their owner requires them to use their brain critically and use their nose for scent. Not only does this help tire them out, but the WSHS adds that it can also help with their development, too.

Before getting started with a game, it is important to teach the dog commands, including sit and stay so they know when to begin. Once they eventually find you, give them praise to show what a great job they did. You can also gradually make the games harder, and if they ever get confused, call their name as a helping hand. That will keep their interest heightened and encourage them to keep searching.

It appears that Buddy the golden retriever still has a way to go before he truly grasps the idea of hide-and-seek, but he enjoyed it anyway. With over 400 comments on the viral TikTok video, plenty of internet users lauded his excellent efforts, which kept his owner guessing.

One comment reads: "woah! he appeared out of nowhere."

Another person joked: "He's the best hider!"

"This is, quite literally, the cutest thing I've ever seen," added a third TikTok user.

A fourth responded: "Where did he come from?!"
