Shih Tzu's Attitude Leaves Internet in Hysterics: 'Little Comedian'

A Shih Tzu's feisty personality, as captured by his owner, has delighted viewers on social media.

Enzo, 2, was filmed growling after being asked by his owner, Olivia Caputo, to give her a kiss. Viewers were able to see the pair sitting on Caputo's couch, as Enzo snarled before succumbing to his owner's request. The dog resumed growling immediately after planting a quick peck on his owner's face. The video has garnered over 5.6 million views since being posted to TikTok on May 10, highlighting the widespread appeal of this small but spirited breed.

"I have been loving the responses from people that also have Shih Tzus with similar sassy behavior!" Caputo, a content creator and model based in the U.S., told Newsweek.

"Our relationship is very special," she said, known online as @enzoistheshiht and @olivia_caputo. "I never even knew you could share such a strong bond with a dog. He is definitely my soul dog, and I think our connection really shows in this video."

Shih Tzus, known for their luxurious coats and distinctive pushed-in faces, are a toy breed originating from Tibet and developed further in China. The breed name translates to "lion dog" in Mandarin, reflecting their proud and confident demeanor. Despite their small stature, typically weighing between 9 and 16 pounds, Shih Tzus are known for their big personalities.

The American Kennel Club (AKC) describes the Shih Tzu as a friendly, outgoing, and affectionate breed. They are well-suited for companionship, often forming strong bonds with their owners. Their playful and occasionally stubborn nature can lead to amusing antics, much like Enzo's performance in Caputo's viral video. The Shih Tzu has been with his owner since he was 10 weeks old.

"I was shocked to see this video gain so much traction so quickly," Caputo said. "It was a video I only planned to send in my family group chat to my parents. We all thought it was so funny that it needed to be shared with Enzo's TikTok audience, and it reached far beyond that very quickly."

The influencer had taught her dog how to give tongueless kissessomething which, as evidenced in the viral clip, he often complains about.

"It's as if he said to me, 'ughhh! OK, fine!' He has such a huge personality in his small body, and he always makes me laugh. I love that we were able to build such a large, highly engaged following on social media so we can spread joy every day," Caputo added.

The video, which was initially intended for Caputo's family, quickly resonated with a much larger group of people after it was posted to the pet's TikTok page.

"No limit to how many Enzo kisses can be in the Google Calendar each day," Google commented, via its official TikTok account @google.

"My Shih Tzu hates giving kisses he gets so mad when you ask him but he'll do It for the treats," one user, @frankietheshiht, wrote.

Another, @calcifer_sp, added: "When [he is] annoyed but still loves you."

Caputo had captioned the post, "He's a little comedian."
