Owners Perplexed by Where They Find Their Cat in Pouring Rain: 'He's Weird'
A family was out on a walk when they found their cat relaxing on a wall in the pouring rain.
Pants the black cat has become somewhat of a social-media icon, as his owner regularly shares clips of the extremely fluffy feline to his TikTok account @colmorris28. Now one video has gone hugely viral, racking up over 1.3 million views since being posted on November 20.
The family lives in Tamworth, England, where Pants has become known for sitting in his favorite spot: a wall overlooked by the very old castle the town is famous for. Newsweek has contacted @colmorris28 on TikTok for comment on this story.
In the viral clip, his owners are out for a walk in the pouring rain, when they suddenly come across the castle and a familiar figure sitting on the wall.
"Pants, it's raining," the man says as they approach the giant cat, as his wife and kids let out noises of shock.
Pants is completely soaked, with small rivets running down his fur, but he is utterly uncaring and simply gives his owners a bored look. "He's weird," the woman says, before picking up Pants in her arms and preparing to bring him home. A caption reads: "He's either not all there or his fur's too thick to feel the rain."
While cats are usually kept indoors in the United States, it is common in the United Kingdom for owners to allow their cats to roam.
The U.K.'s Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA) says that indoor-only cats can become stressed, inactive and obese. But the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) warns outdoor cats are at risk from cars, predators, disease and fights with other felines.
In Pants' case, he is so known for taking a stroll and sitting in his favorite spot, that he's become a bit of a local celebrity, with many in the comments instantly recognizing him.
"Omg [oh my God] it's pants the castle cat," one wrote, while another added: "My kids are obsessed with pants every time we go down that way they have to check if he's there and have a little fuss."
"You're the owner of Pants?!" another said, adding: "I LOVE HIM and I give him so much fuss!"
Some eagle-eyed viewers pointed out a small sign right by where Pants was sitting.
Pants' owner said in a comment that the sign lets people know it's OK to pay the cat attention, "but not to feed him as he's greedy and gets fat when everyone gives him food and treats."
