Golden Retriever's 'Emotional' Reaction to New Puppy Brother Melts Hearts
A sweet video of a golden retriever meeting the family's new puppy and being unable to control his emotions has melted hearts across the internet.
Kobe Bean the golden was an only child when his position as sole ruler was threatened by his owners getting a new golden puppy, which they named Air Jordan.
But while some dogs may have been jealous, Kobe was just as excited as his owners to welcome a new addition to the family.
A heartwarming video shared to the couple's TikTok account @pawfectpughfam on November 10 showed what happened when the two new brothers met for the first time.
They wrote across the video, which garnered over 1.1 million likes and 7 million views: "Introducing a baby to our extremely emotional baby."
As the woman crouches down on the hearth with Kobe, the man slowly walks toward them with a puppy in his arms, and Kobe loses it, whimpering and whining in excitement, eager to get to the new arrival as soon as possible.
Kobe's tail wags furiously as the pair are introduced, and the couple also keep a close hand on the larger dog just in case his excitement becomes too much.
But it passes without incident—and the end of the clip shows the paw-rents watching on as the two dogs play with one another for the first time.
They wrote in a caption: "They're going to be best friends forever."
And this prediction came true, as a later video shared to their page shows Kobe Bean and Air Jordan playing, cuddling and even learning to share toys, with the clip beautifully set to "You've Got A Friend In Me."
TikTok users reacted to the dogs' first meeting with hundreds of comments. One wrote: "I thought it was gonna be an actual baby!"
"My dog would have peed everywhere," another admitted.
One user said: "This video was NOT long enough. I need more."
Others were concerned it was an unusual way to introduce a dog to a puppy, but as one acknowledged "it turned out okay."
The American Kennel Club (AKC) notes that a puppy may not understand communication or rules from an older dog, and may immediately begin playing, which an older dog may not appreciate—but in Kobe's case, it looks like he did.
It is also recommended for dogs to meet new additions to the family in a neutral place rather than in the older dog's established home, such as for a walk together outside. Should the older dog growl, he should not be reprimanded, as it is how the animal is communicating that he is unhappy, and a puppy may understand that he has gone too far.
